Professional carpet dryers and carpet cleaners are usually quite expensive. However, it is not necessary to use the above methods if you want to clean your carpet. You can make your own carpet cleaner and use it when needed. Homemade carpet cleaners are great for removing stains, treating areas of carpet that are frequently walked on, and keeping the entire carpet clean.There are many recipes for carpet cleaners. Experiment! This will help you prepare a product that will tackle any stubborn stain.

Part 1 of 3: Recipes

1. 1 Prepare an air-conditioned carpet cleaner. This solution is very similar in composition to products that can be purchased at the store. By using the aforementioned product, you can be sure that your carpet will be clean and soft. In addition, a pleasant smell will come from it. To make carpet cleaner, mix in a bucket:
   • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) liquid detergent
   • ¼ cup (60 ml) liquid all-purpose cleaning agent;
   • 1 scoop of OxiClean or similar product;
   • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) fabric softener
   • 4 liters of hot water.
2. 2 Make a non-toxic carpet cleaner that smells good. If you have children or pets in your family, chances are you are trying to use non-toxic cleaning products, especially when it comes to everyday items. To make a non-toxic, pleasant-smelling carpet cleaner, mix:
   • 1 cup (235 ml) white vinegar
   • 2 cups (470 ml) water
   • 2 teaspoons (10 g) salt
   • 15 drops of an essential oil such as lemon, lavender or pine.
3. 3 Use a window cleaner to make a carpet cleaner. Window cleaner can be used not only for its intended purpose. Mix the window cleaner with water for an excellent carpet cleaner. It is a cheap and effective carpet cleaner for your home, car and other areas.
   • To prepare the above solution, mix equal proportions of hot water and window cleaner.
4. 4 Make an ammonia-based carpet cleaner. Ammonia-based products are much more effective than conventional products. However, when using this agent, you should take precautions, because ammonia is an aggressive substance that can harm the skin, eyes, and respiratory tract. Also note that ammonia can damage some materials. Put on gloves and mix the following ingredients:
   • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) dish soap
   • ¼ glass (60 ml) ammonia;
   • ¼ cups (60 ml) vinegar
   • 11 liters of water.
5. 5 Make a lemon and hydrogen peroxide carpet cleaner. Hydrogen peroxide is an effective cleaner, and lemon is a great oil and odor remover. Combining hydrogen peroxide with lemon makes a good carpet cleaner. To prepare this remedy:
   • Pour ¾ cup (175 ml) hydrogen peroxide;
   • add 1½ cups (352 ml) water;
   • add 5 drops of lemon essential oil;
   • mix well.
6. 6 Make a dry baking soda-based carpet cleaner. Dry carpet cleaners are excellent at removing stains. You can make a powdered carpet cleaner at home. To do this, combine the following ingredients in a small bowl:
   • 1 cup (220 g) baking soda
   • 1 cup (110 g) cornstarch
   • 5 pieces of bay leaves, crushed (for smell);
   • add the crushed aroma mixture (optional).
7. 7 Combine borax powder and baking soda. If you want to make a carpet cleaner that removes stubborn dirt and odors, mix borax and baking soda. Add your favorite blend of dried herbs or flowers for a pleasant scent. Combine the following ingredients in a bowl:
   • 1 cup (400 g) borax
   • 1 cup (220 g) baking soda
   • 1 tablespoon (5 g) dried herbs or flowers
   • 20 drops of essential oil.

Part 2 of 3: Cleaning the carpet by hand

1. 1 Use a spray bottle, shaker, or similar container to clean your carpet. To clean your carpet or remove a stain, you will need to apply an even layer of cleaner to the carpet. To do this, pour the prepared carpet cleaner into a spray bottle, or if you are using a dry mix, pour it into a shaker. This allows you to evenly coat the carpet with a layer of cleaning agent.
   • Stir the finished product well before pouring or pouring it into the container of your choice.
2. 2 Test on a small, inconspicuous area of ​​carpet. Before using a carpet cleaner, be sure to test on an inconspicuous area of ​​the carpet to make sure your carpet is resistant to this attack. Keep this in mind when it comes to cleaning carpets, fabrics or upholstery. Thanks to the preliminary test, you will not worry about the condition of the carpet after cleaning it. To conduct a trial test, you must:
   • Select an inconspicuous area of ​​carpet, for example, test the area under furniture.
   • Spray or sprinkle your chosen product onto a small area of ​​the carpet.
   • Wait 24 hours.
   • After the specified period, evaluate the result. Pay attention to whether the color of the carpet has changed in the selected area. After 24 hours, assess the condition of the carpet, whether its color or quality has changed.
   • If the condition of the carpet remains the same, you can use the cleaning agent of your choice.
3. 3 Spray a liquid cleaner or sprinkle dry cleaner evenly over the stained area of ​​the carpet. Apply a dry product evenly to the contaminated area. If you are using a liquid carpet cleaner, spray it on the area of ​​carpet you want to clean. To clean an entire carpet, divide it into three or four sections and brush one by one.
   • If you need to clean the entire carpet, start at the farthest area from the door and work your way forward towards the exit.
4. 4 Wait until the carpet is soaked in the cleaner. After applying the product to the carpet, wait about 10 minutes. The carpet will saturate well with the cleaning solution if you use a liquid solution. If you use a dry cleaner, the dry mix will absorb odors and remove stains within the specified time period.
   • If you are limited in time, you can not wait 10 minutes. However, your carpet will be cleaner if you do this.
5. 5 Brush the carpet. Use a stiff-bristled carpet brush to scrub the area you have applied the cleaner to. This will allow the cleaning agent to saturate the fibers deeper in the carpet, allowing you to completely remove the dirt.
   • After brushing the carpet, wait about 30 minutes for it to dry.
6. 6 Vacuum. When the carpet is completely dry after using the liquid cleaner, vacuum it thoroughly. If you've used a dry cleaner, evaluate the result. The carpet should be clean and smell good. After making sure your carpet is clean, vacuum it thoroughly. Vacuum the carpet two or three times to keep debris, dirt and powder free.
   • If you cleaned your carpet by dividing it into sections, vacuum the selected area and move on to the next.

Part 3 of 3: Using a carpet cleaner

   • Some devices are equipped with reservoirs for clean water and cleaning agent. Fill tanks with appropriate fluids.
3. 3 Wash the carpet. Turn on your carpet cleaner and clean your carpet. Starting at the farthest corner from the door, wash the carpet using the same motions you use when vacuuming the carpet. Brush each area of ​​the carpet two to three times to keep it completely clean.
   • Start cleaning the carpet from the farthest area from the door and gradually move forward towards the exit.
4. 4 Wait for the carpet to dry. When cleaning the carpet with a specialized machine, the carpet is more saturated with the liquid detergent. Therefore, wait 24 hours for the carpet to dry completely. During this period, the carpet will dry completely.
5. 5 Vacuum the carpet. When the carpet is completely dry and there are no traces of cleaning agent left on it (you can check the condition of the carpet by sliding your hand over it), vacuum it. The vacuum cleaner will remove the dirt and debris on the carpet and your carpet will be clean again.
   • Some carpet cleaners have a vacuum function. Select the appropriate mode when you need to use the carpet cleaner as a vacuum cleaner.
