There is no "perfect" Margarita - we don't even know what the original recipe for this popular drink was! However, many cocktail experts will tell you that buying a store-bought margarita is not the way to go. There are many, many other ways to make this refreshing drink; This article outlines the various options so that you are free to experiment and achieve your perfect Margarita.

Ingredients

  • 1 part tequila
  • 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 piece triple sek (for example, Cointreau)
  • Coarse salt
  • Lime for decoration
  • Tabasco sauce
  • Ice

Steps

Method 1 of 5: Standard Margarita

  1. 1 Place ice in a shaker.
  2. 2 Measure out one part of the tequila and pour into a shaker.
  3. 3 Add one part triple sek (orange-flavored liqueur made from dried orange peels from the Caribbean). You can also replace it with blue curasau (this liqueur is made from a citrus fruit called "laraha", which is very similar in aroma to oranges), and make a blue margarita.
  4. 4 Add one part freshly squeezed lime juice. For an authentic Mexican flavor, go for regular small limes (which are more acidic and bitter than the larger Persian variety). Alternatively, you can use freshly squeezed lemon juice (try Meyer's sweet lemon juice!) For a milder taste.
  5. 5 Shake vigorously.
  6. 6 Take a wedge of lime and run it over the rim of the glass. Don't forget to grease the outside of the glass as well - the salt should stick there.
  7. 7 Sprinkle some salt on a plate, turn the glass over with the lime-damp side down, dip in the salt, and swirl it over the plate. Alternatively, you can use sugar instead of salt.
  8. 8 Pour some ice into a glass and strain the shaker drink into it.
  9. 9 Top with a lime or a drop of Tabasco and enjoy!
  10. 10 Finish your preparations. If the 1: 1: 1 ratio is not to your liking, try the following:
    • Tequila: Triple Sec: Lime Juice
      • 2:1:1
      • 3:2:1
      • 3:1:1
      • 7:4:3
      • 8: 1.5: 3 - if in the previous ratios there is too much triple sec for you.

Method 2 of 5: Margarita Corona

  1. 1 Choose a light, tasty beer, Corona is usually great for this. If you have 1 glass of tequila (250 ml), then take 1/2 - 3/4 cup of beer (125 - 180 ml).
  2. 2 Use gold tequila because white tequila doesn't mix well with beer.
  3. 3 Don't forget the Cointreau orange liqueur (with a drop of triple seca if you wish), the sweeter the better.
  4. 4 Lime juice: try squeezing half a lime for a sour taste.
  5. 5 Add a tablespoon of sugar: mix well.
  6. 6 A drop of sparkling mineral water will add a little “excitement” to your drink.
  7. 7 Add crushed ice and stir well, serve ice and drink. Tip: do not use a shaker because beer and mineral water are carbonated.

Method 3 of 5: Margarita Baia

  • 150 ml aged tequila (tequila marked “reposado”)
  • 75 ml Damiana (traditional Baia, California)
    • The amount can be adjusted depending on the acidity / sweetness of your limes or lemons.
  • 7 large limes - pressed, pulp extracted.
    • We recommend Persian limes (they are also sweet limes, Citrus latifolia Tanaka); Mexican (smaller ones, they are also West Indies, ordinary) require more effort, but they give less juice, although they are tasty.
  • 1 lemon, squeezed with pulp extracted.
    • Meyer or Improved Meyer gives the margarita sweetness without added sugar.

Method 4 of 5: Ice Margarita with Lime Lemonade

A great simple recipe for large batches of delicious iced margarita! You don't need blenders or ice for this recipe!

  1. 1 Mix the following ingredients in a plastic container and place in the freezer.
    • 2 cans of lime lemonade
    • 6 cans of sparkling water
    • 2 cans of tequila
    • 1 can of triple sec
    • Note: this usually means 200 ml of a can, and as long as you are guided by this measure in proportions, everything should work out perfectly!
  2. 2 Once you achieve an even consistency, serve with a scoop.

Method 5 of 5: Agave Recipe

  1. 1 Prepare the following:
    • 2 parts 100% agave tequila
    • 1 part freshly squeezed lime juice
    • 1 part ready-to-eat (pre-diluted) agave nectar
  2. 2 Add everything along with ice to a shaker.
  3. 3 Try it and make adjustments to your liking.
  4. 4 Pour into a margarita glass and enjoy!

Tips

  • The best tequila is 100% agave. Beware of brands that do not write “100% agave” on the label.
  • A popular alternative is to blend the ingredients in a blender to make the consistency more smoothie-like.
  • Freshly squeezed juice is the secret of the perfect Margarita.

Warnings

  • Use coarse salt or margarita salt. Do not use iodized salt (fine table salt).
  • The taste of Margarita directly depends on the quality of the ingredients. Don't be stingy!
  • Drink responsibly with the consequences in mind.
