Crabs are commonly eaten in restaurants and are rarely, if ever, bought fresh and cooked at home. Luckily, making crabs really isn't that difficult. Plus, by cooking your own meals, you tend to prepare healthier meals for your family, and you know what ingredients are included in the meal. So go to the store, buy some fresh crabs, and read this article on how to cook them.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Boiled Crabs

  1. 1 Boil a few liters of water to make two crabs. Add two tablespoons of sea salt.
    • Each crab should consume at least one liter of water. Accordingly, to cook two crabs, pour at least two liters of water into a saucepan.
  2. 2 Place the crabs gently in boiling water. If you want to kill a crab more humanely, then grab its legs and gently dip its head in the water for a few seconds.
  3. 3 Bring water to a boil again and then reduce heat to low.
  4. 4 Cook the crab according to its weight. When the crab is fully cooked, its shell will turn bright orange.
    • It will take 15-20 minutes to cook a large crab (about 1 kg).
    • To cook a small crab (about 500 grams or less), you will need 8-10 minutes.
  5. 5 Dip the crab in ice cold water for 20 seconds to keep the meat from overcooking.
  6. 6 Serve the crabs immediately or refrigerate and serve cold.
    • Break off the claws and legs of the crab. Use a hammer or tongs to break the crab shell near the joints and then at its widest part.
    • Turn the crab over. Tear off its tail fin.
    • Remove the top carapace. Then remove the gills, viscera, and jaw.
    • Break the crab in half and you can now enjoy its meat.

Method 2 of 3: Steaming the crabs

  1. 1 Mix 1 cup vinegar, 2 cups water, and 2 tablespoons salt in a large saucepan. If you prefer, you can use one or two tablespoons of Old Bay or Zatarain instead of water. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  2. 2 While the water is boiling, place the crabs in the freezer or ice water. This will be a more humane way to kill the crabs, and will also help preserve their limbs while they cook.
  3. 3 Place a steam rack over boiling water and place the crabs on top of it. Cover with a lid. Set the heat to medium-high.
  4. 4 Cook the crabs for 20 minutes. Crabs should turn bright orange or red when cooked.
    • Check periodically that the water in the pot does not evaporate.Add more warm water to the pot if needed.
  5. 5 Remove the crabs and place them in ice water for 20 seconds to keep the meat from overcooking.
  6. 6 Can be served immediately.

Method 3 of 3: BBQ crab

  1. 1 Place the crab first in the freezer for 3 minutes.
  2. 2 Peel the crab. Split the claws (but do not break them off), remove the eyes, jaws, caudal fin and gills. Rinse the crabs under cold water.
  3. 3 Prepare the marinade. Some people prefer to eat crabs with melted butter, garlic, lemon, and other condiments. Try this marinade:
    • 8 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon lemon pepper
    • 1 teaspoon paprika
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 teaspoon salt
  4. 4 Take a paintbrush and brush the marinade over the crabs. Try to coat them completely.
  5. 5 Place the crabs on the grill, cover and cook over low heat for 10 minutes.
  6. 6 Brush the marinade on the crabs again and cook for another 10-15 minutes. When the crabs turn bright orange or red, it means they are ready!

Tips
