Kihadi is a favorite dish in many Indian homes. It is very healthy and tasty. In this article, you will learn how to make it at home in the North Indian style.
Ingredients
- 500 grams of rice
- 400 g mung dal or crushed green gram
- 2 tablespoons turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon asafoetida
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 3 tablespoons ghee
- 500 ml of water
- 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Peeling Rice and Crushed Green Grams
1 Place the rice in a large bowl.
2 Add the crushed green gram to the rice.
3 Peel and rinse the rice and green gram mixture under running water.
Method 2 of 3: Frying with ghee
- 1Place the fat in the bottom of the steamer.
2 Add cumin seeds. Cook over low heat until the seeds begin to open.
3 Sprinkle the seeds with asafoetida powder. Mix thoroughly.
4 Add turmeric and stir.
5 Drain the rice and green gram.
6 Add the rinsed rice and green gram to the pressure cooker.
7 Stir well with a spatula. Saute for a few minutes, until the rice and green gram are covered in fat.
8 Add water. Its level should be higher than a mixture of rice and green grams.
Method 3 of 3: Cooking in a pressure cooker
- 1 Place the lid on the pressure cooker. Cook under pressure until the second whistle blows (about 6 minutes).
- 2 Turn off heating. Wait for the pressure to drop.
3 Open the lid of the pressure cooker. Check the rice and green gram for cooking.
4 Add water for a thicker consistency. Cook for a few more minutes.
5 Add salt and mix well.
6 Serve with cottage cheese or pickled vegetables. Add ghee before serving.
Tips
- Extra water promotes better digestion and helps relieve constipation.
- Add red chili or pepper powder for spice.
