Many people love sushi, but want to try unusual rolls? Substitute fruit for seafood and make sushi for dessert!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (315 grams) sushi rice
  • 2 cups (470 ml) water
  • 3 tablespoons (35 grams) sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (230 ml) coconut milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Fruit (any fruit will do, such as pineapple, kiwi, mango, banana, strawberry, etc.)

Steps

  1. 1 Rinse the rice. Place the rice in a large bowl and fill it with water. Rinse the rice with your hands until the water stops turning milky. Then drain off the remaining water with a colander.
  2. 2 Cook the rice. Place the rice in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Cover it with water, add salt and sugar. Bring rice to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 12-15 minutes.
  3. 3 Add coconut milk. Pour in some coconut milk when the rice has absorbed all the water.
  4. 4 Cool the rice. Remove the pot of rice from the heat and leave in a cool place to cool the rice slightly.
  5. 5 Slice the fruit. Take a knife and slice the fruit into long cubes, just like slicing the filling for regular sushi.
  6. 6 Spread the rice over cling film. Spoon some rice and spread it evenly in a rectangle shape. This can be done with a spoon or with your hands.
  7. 7 Lay out the fruit pieces. Place the fruit pieces carefully. They should not lie quite in the middle, but about 2/3 of the edge.
  8. 8 Roll up the sushi. Once you've added your desired filling to your sushi, you can gently roll the rolls into the desired shape. Make sure they don't break up.
  9. 9 Serve. Place the rolls on a plate. Alternatively, instead of pickled ginger, you can put pieces of melon, and instead of soy sauce, you can put fresh fruit puree. By the way, don't forget that eating sushi is best done with chopsticks!

Tips

  • Prepare the nigiri by rolling a small ball of rice and placing a piece of fruit on top.
  • Prepare a small container of water to dip your hands in when making sushi. This will prevent the rice from sticking to your hands.
  • To recreate the Japanese atmosphere even better, try eating this sushi with a cup of warm green tea.
  • Pour chocolate syrup on the fruit sushi for a sweeter, more beautiful look.
  • If you have a special sushi mat, you can use it.
  • You can use chocolate syrup instead of soy sauce and lime yogurt instead of wasabi.

Warnings

  • Do not stir the rice while cooking before adding the coconut milk.
