Curly Jelly is a vibrant dessert made from sweet chilled gelatin. It is often made in several layers and laid out on a platter before serving to show its smooth and beautiful curly shape. It can be varied: it depends on the container into which you pour it. But in order to get the right consistency, you sometimes need to ignore the instructions on the packaging in favor of traditional methods.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cup (0.3 L) boiling water
  • 170 g jelly in packs
  • Canned fruits (optional)
  • Sour cream (optional)

Steps

Part 1 of 4: Preparing the mold

  1. 1 Buy a form. Traditionally, a round corrugated shape with a hole in the middle is used to make the jelly look attractive and neat. For best results, purchase a non-stick mold.
  2. 2 For jelly, you can also opt for a silicone mold. You can buy it in a store or online. You will find a variety of holiday shapes such as hearts, Christmas trees, roses, etc.
  3. 3 Buy as many packs of jelly in different colors as you want to make layers. You will need about five packs for a standard form. For each color, you need 0.3 liters of boiling water and a separate container.

Part 2 of 4: Making the jelly

  1. 1 Boil water. Pour one packet of jelly into 0.3 liters of boiling water. Stir well with a metal spoon until the powder is completely dissolved.
    • Please note: this is less than indicated on the package, which will make the jelly harder.
  2. 2 Repeat the same with the remaining jelly colors in separate containers. The number of jelly packs directly depends on the size of the mold. Buy a few packs in reserve so you have enough.
  3. 3 Let the mixture cool to room temperature. Free up some space in the refrigerator for the next step.
  4. 4 If you want some colors matte, add 2 tablespoons to the jelly jar. l. (30 ml) sour cream... Whisk in sour cream.
  5. 5 Add a jar of canned pineapple chunks or other fruit to the jelly mixture. Stir well to distribute the pieces evenly.
  6. 6 If you want to make jelly of the same color or to mix colors, pour the cooled jelly into the mold. Put it in the refrigerator overnight. You can take it out in the morning.

Part 3 of 4: How to lay out the jelly in layers

  1. 1 Lightly lubricate the metal or silicone mold with oil.
  2. 2 Pour the same color jelly into a mold. Refrigerate for 20 minutes. You can remove it when the surface is just beginning to harden and you can see the formed edges on the sides.
  3. 3 Pour in the next layer of jelly. For contrast, you can pour in a matte mixture. Put the mold in the refrigerator again for 20 minutes to harden the next layer.
  4. 4 Remove the jelly from the refrigerator. Pour in the next layer and refrigerate again for 20 minutes. Repeat this with all the remaining colors.
  5. 5 Place the mold in the refrigerator overnight.

Part 4 of 4: The Final Step

  1. 1 Wash your hands and dry.
  2. 2 Separate the jelly from the edges of the mold by pressing lightly on the sides of the mold with your fingers. If using a hole mold, separate the jelly from the edges of the inner circle.
  3. 3 Find a flat dish. It should be at least 10 cm larger in diameter than your shape.
  4. 4 Pour warm water into a large bowl.
  5. 5 Place the mold in a bowl of warm water to separate the jelly from the walls. Water must not get inside.
  6. 6 Pull out after 15 seconds. Dry the outer edges of the mold.
  7. 7 Turn the dish over and place it on the open side of the dish. Press firmly, holding the bottom of the dish and the bottom of the dish with your fingers.
  8. 8 Turn the dish over so that the dish is at the bottom. You should feel the jelly separate from the mold. If not, flip it over and place the mold back in warm water for a few more seconds. Then try again.
  9. 9 Serve the jelly by cutting it into pieces.
  10. 10 Bon Appetit!
