Making coffee in Arabic is a great art. Often, the name Arabic coffee is a generic term that characterizes the way coffee is prepared in many Arab countries throughout the Middle East. To make coffee, they use “dala” (dalah) - a metal (most often copper) coffee jug with a long spout, as well as special small cups without a handle.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp Arabic coffee (very finely ground)
- 1 tbsp Sahara
- Water
- Cardamom (to taste, but is usually added during the coffee grinding process)
Steps
1 Pour water into the pot (more than half).
2 Turn the stove on over medium heat and bring the water to a boil.
3 Reduce heat as soon as the water starts to boil.
4 Add two tablespoons of Arabian ground coffee and one tablespoon of sugar to the pot and mix well.
5 Simmer the coffee. After 5-10 minutes, the coffee will begin to boil and foam will form on top.
6 Turn off the oven and let your coffee sit for another minute.
7 Remove the pot from the stove and let the foam settle. Once the foam has settled, add the cardamom.
8 Place the pot on the stove and boil it again. During the boil, foam forms again, as shown in the previous steps.
9 Remove the pot from the stove and use a spoon to remove the foam. As soon as you remove the froth, the coffee is ready to be brewed.
10 Place coffee cups on a platter and enjoy the delicate taste of Arabic coffee.
