In this article, you will learn how to easily switch from one iPhone to another using data transfer.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Using iCloud

1. 1 Launch the Settings app on your old iPhone. Tap the gray gear icon (⚙️) on the Home screen.
2. 2 Tap your Apple ID. You will find it in the section at the top of the menu next to your name and profile picture (if you have one).
   • If you haven't signed in yet, click Sign In, enter your Apple ID and password, and then click Sign In.
   • Perhaps, on older iOS versions, this step can be skipped.
3. 3 Click iCloud. It's in the second section of the menu.
4. 4 Select the data to back up. Browse the apps listed under Apps that use iCloud, such as Photos, Contacts, and Calendar. Move the sliders next to the data you want to transfer to your new phone to the On (green) position.
   • Data with sliders set to Off (white) will not be copied and transferred to the new iPhone.
5. 5 Scroll down and tap iCloud Copy. It's near the bottom of the Programs Using iCloud section.
   • If necessary, move the slider next to iCloud Copy to the On (green) position.
6. 6 Tap Back up now. It's at the bottom of the screen. The backup of your old iPhone will start. Wait for the process to complete.
7. 7 Click iCloud. It's in the upper-left corner of the screen. You will be returned to the iCloud settings page.
8. 8 Turn on your new iPhone and set basic options. You will be prompted for certain information such as language, country, wireless network, and so on.
9. 9 Click Recover iCloud Copy. Do this when prompted to choose how to set up your new iPhone. This will transfer data from your old iPhone to your new one.
10. 10 Tap Next. It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
11. 11 Enter your Apple ID and password. Do this on the appropriate lines.
12. 12 Tap the iCloud backup. Select the copy marked with the closest date and time.
13. 13 Click Recover. The data you copied from the old iPhone will be transferred to the new iPhone.
    • The new iPhone will restart when the data recovery is complete. Now you can use your smartphone ..

Method 2 of 2: Using iTunes

1. 1 Connect your old iPhone to your computer. To do this, use the USB cable supplied with the device.
2. 2 Open iTunes. Do this if the program did not start automatically when you connected the device.
3. 3 Click on your iPhone. The iPhone icon will appear at the top of the screen as soon as iTunes recognizes the smartphone.
4. 4 Click the button next to This PC. This option is under the "Create backups automatically" section.
   • If you want to back up your passwords, Homekit data, or Health and Activity data, check the box next to Encrypt backup and create a new password.
5. 5 Click Back Up Now. It's in the right pane of the window under the Manual Backup and Restore section.
   • Wait for iTunes to finish backing up and saving your data. The process may take several minutes depending on the amount of data stored on the iPhone.
6. 6 Click the Eject button and then disconnect your phone from your computer. This button is located to the right of the iPhone's name. Disconnect your phone by unplugging the USB cable.
7. 7 Turn off your old iPhone. To do this, hold the lock button on the right or top panel of the phone body until the screen displays the inscription "Turn off", and then swipe over this inscription.
   • If your old iPhone has a SIM card, remove it and insert it into the new iPhone.
8. 8 Turn on your new iPhone. To do this, click on the lock button.
9. 9 Set the basic parameters of your smartphone. You will be prompted for certain information such as country, language, wireless network, and so on.
10. 10 Click Restore iTunes Copy. This will be one of the options for setting up or restoring the new device.
11. 11 Connect your new iPhone to the same computer. Use the cable that comes with your new device because it might be different (Lightning cable instead of 30-pin cable).
    • iTunes will recognize the new device and display "Welcome to the new iPhone."
12. 12 Click on the "Recover this copy" button. Select the most recent backup from the drop-down menu.
13. 13 Click Continue. The transfer of data from iTunes to the new iPhone will begin.
    • Wait for the new iPhone to restart. Now you can use your smartphone.

Warnings

• You cannot restore a backup of a new iPhone model to an old model. If you want to transfer data between older iPhone models, please update the software first. To do this, launch the Settings app and tap General> Software Update. The iPhone will have the latest available version of iOS.
