This article will show you how to catch Zapdos in Pokemon Fire Red.

Steps

1. 1 Fly to Route 10, which is outside Cerulin City. If you don't already have the HM Flying ability, get it.
2. 2 Travel along the river to the Power Plant using the Surfing skill.
3. 3 Defeat or bypass Scientist Greg.
4. 4 Enter the Power Plant. Walk counterclockwise to find Zapdos.
5. 5 Save your game before trying to catch Zapdos!
   • You will need over 30 Ultra Balls. Load your save if Zapdos loses consciousness or you run out of Ultraballs.
   • Zapdos's only offensive skill is called Beak Drill. Based on this, it will be easier for you to catch him if you take with you a Pokémon with resistance to attacks of the Flying type. Best of all, Geodud, Graveler or Golem will cope with this task, since they are of the Stone type and have a high defense rate and immunity to the "Electric Wave" ability. Give them the Scraps item and use the Stack ability several times if needed.
   • Before you catch Zapdos, lower his health until it turns red and impose a negative status on him, such as sleep or paralysis. While sleeping and freezing are the most effective, they are difficult to use as they subside very quickly. A Pokémon with the Electric Wave ability is perfect for this purpose.

Tips

• Do not use Explosion or Self-detonation abilities.
• Take some level 50-100 Pokémon with you, as Zapdos is a very powerful Pokémon. You should also grab the Stone Type Pokémon.
• Teach one of the Pokémon the Fake Strike ability so that Zapdos has only 1 health remaining.
• Zapdos is level 50.
• Heal the Pokémon before using the Surfing skill.

Warnings

• Zapdos has the Electric Wave ability, with which he can paralyze your Pokémon. Bring 15 Anti-Paralysis (or more) with you just in case.
