Dratini is a rare Dragon Pokémon, and if raised properly will make a great addition to your team. You can find this quirky Pokémon in the Safari Zone, or you can shell out a whole bunch of credits for it in the game center. Review step 1 below to see how to add Dratini to your Pokedex without spending too much effort.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Catching Dratini in the Safari Zone

1. 1 Collect a Super Fishing Rod. You will need the best fishing rod in the game to catch the Dratini. You can get a super fishing rod on trail 12 in the house with a fisherman inside. Talk to him and you will receive a super fishing rod.
2. 2 Go to the Safari area. Dratini can only be caught in the Safari zone. You don't have to worry about which Pokémon to use for the fight, since there are no battles in the Safari zone. The Safari area can be accessed from Fuchsia City.
3. 3 Start fishing. Dratini can be caught in any of the four areas of the Safari Zone. Cast your rod into any body of water in your field of vision to start fishing. The chance that the Pokémon you find will turn out to be Dratini is 15 percent.
   • When the Pokémon bites, you need to press the A key to whip, otherwise the Pokémon will fall off the hook.
   • There is a 1 percent chance that you will catch Dragonair, the next generation of Dratini.
4. 4 Throw a stone. You have 4 ways to start a fight: you can throw the bait, rock or safari ball, or you can run. If you drop the bait, the Pokémon will most likely not run away, but it will be more difficult to catch. Throwing a stone will make it easier to catch, but the chances of it fleeing will also be higher.
   • If you throw the bait and then the rock then it will cancel the effect of both. If you want to increase the chances of being caught, throw either one stone or the bait and two stones after it.
5. 5 Throw the safari ball. If the ball does not catch Dratini, he will have the opportunity to escape. If he runs away you will have to start fishing again to catch another Dratini. If it remains, then in the next turn, throw another safari ball.
6. 6 Train your Dratini. After you have caught Dratini you can start training him to transform into Dragonite. Dratini can be used in many places thanks to its speed and dragon attacks. Method 2 of 2: Buying Dratini in Celadon City

1. 1 Visit the Rocket Game Corner in Celadon City. You can win the Dratini at any time after entering Celadon City for the first time. Dratini costs 2,800 credits.
