It's easy to make a symmetrical paper heart if you know what you're doing. Use this perfect heart shape to make cards, posters, wall pictures and other paper crafts. Give the heart as a simple, sweet gift on Valentine's Day or when you want to show someone you care.

Method 1 of 2: Making the heart

1. Fold a sheet of paper in half. This can be a rectangular or square sheet of paper. Both forms are suitable. To make a classic festive heart, use red, pink, or purple craft paper. If you want to make a big heart, use a large sheet of paper.
2. Draw the outline of half a heart. Start sketching at the fold in the paper so that the top and bottom of the heart start at the fold. When you cut this line from both parts of the folded sheet of paper, you will get a heart with both halves perfectly symmetrical to each other.
   • The outline you draw will determine what the heart will eventually look like, so now is the time to decide what you want your paper heart to look like.
   • If you plan on erasing the line, use a pencil. Use a pen if you don't mind that your paper heart has a dark line.
3. Cut out the heart along the drawn line. Start at the fold — the center of the top or bottom of the heart — and cut along the line you drew. Proceed with caution, but don't worry too much about how accurate you are. When you unfold the heart, both sides will be symmetrical, no matter how crooked you cut. Make sure to cut through both halves of the paper.
   • If you don't want the dark line showing on the final heart, cut just inside the pencil line or erase it later.
4. Unfold the paper. You should now have a symmetrical paper heart. You are now ready to give the heart to someone or use it for a larger craft project.

Method 2 of 2: Giving the heart

1. Use the heart. Give it to someone or use it for a larger craft project. When it's almost Valentine's Day, your paper heart can be a beautiful and simple gift to give to someone you love. However, don't be too afraid to give someone a heart whenever you want!
2. Make a card in the shape of a heart. Make a card of the heart by writing a sweet text on it and folding the heart in half. You can even stick the heart on a larger rectangular card and then write your message in the heart. Write a message for someone you like.
   • If you want a playful card, write "Do you want to be my Valentine?" or "I love you."
   • If you want a more serious card, write something like "I love you" or "I give my heart to you." Make sure to give the card to someone who is well aware of this message.
3. Use the heart for a larger craft project. Stick the paper heart on a card or poster. Use tape or thumbtacks to hang the heart on your wall or window. Use your heart in a pop-up book. Be creative!

Tips

• It is best to use thin paper as it is easier to cut.
• You can keep the outer part and use it as a heart-shaped frame or frame.
• If you don't want a crease in the center of your finished heart, cut the heart from scrap paper using the method in this article. Use the scrap paper heart as a template to cut a heart out of nicer paper.
