This will be a guide for anyone looking to connect their stereo Bluetooth headset to a PC. It is based on Windows 7 and the Nokia BH-604 headset, although the steps are very similar. This is done using a Rocketfish Bluetooth USB dongle.

Steps

  1. 1 Install a Bluetooth adapter if you haven't already. Make sure to give it enough time to install the necessary drivers.
  2. 2 Plug in the adapter if you haven't already. Navigate to Devices and Printers and find a Bluetooth adapter. Right click and select Properties. Make sure: Allow Devices to Find this computer, Allow devices to connect to this computer, Alert me when Bluetooth device wants to connect. connect), and if you want - Show bluetooth in the notifications area (Show bluetooth in the notification area).
  3. 3 Set the headset to discoverable mode and search for it using your computer. This can be done by clicking on the Devices tab at the bottom of your adapter's properties window, or by right-clicking on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray and clicking Add device.
  4. 4 When your adapter finds your device, it's time to pair it. Some headsets have a pairing passcode of 0000. Check the manual for the code.
  5. 5 After pairing, allow the computer to install the drivers with Windows update.
  6. 6 Install a headset for stereo audio. Open Bluetooth devices by right-clicking the icon on the taskbar. Right-click the headset and choose Properties. Go to the Services tab and let it load Services. We need to make sure the "Audio Sink" and "Headset" options are both selected. You can also uncheck the box next to "Hands-free Telephony". I found that my headset switches to mono audio when using Skype calls. Disable it to prevent this from happening. Click the Apply / OK button and allow the computer to install additional drivers (This may not be necessary if Audio Sink and Headset were both enabled).
  7. 7 Select a headset. Make sure your headset is still turned on and connected. Open the "control panel" and select "hardware and sound" and then "Sound". On the Playback tab, you will see a new Bluetooth Audio. It may or may not be called Stereo Audio, depending on the headset. You need to right click on the device and set it as default. Make sure no sound comes out when you dock the headset. This may affect the headset not responding properly. If this happens, restart your headset.
  8. 8 Test it! Try playing music or video in Windows Media Player. If you can hear sound, then you have tuned everything.

Tips

  • Cheap adapters may not contain the A2DP Profile and will not be able to control the headset. When choosing an adapter, check if it contains this profile.
  • Cheap adapters may not come with drivers and will be troublesome to install. They may also require third party software. Carefully!
  • Some laptops may have built-in adapters. Make sure your adapter supports audio and / or voice gateways Sony Vaio sometimes comes with pre-installed Bluetooth software, whether or not it has an adapter. This software needs to be replaced before the computer can accept the headset because it does not contain audio profiles.
  • Be sure to visit the Intel website to download the latest Bluetooth driver. You may have problems with Dell original drivers for A2DP activation.
