Proper inspection and regular cleaning of your firearm will help keep it working efficiently and safely when firing.Since every time the trigger is pulled, a small explosion occurs in the barrel, so carbon and dirt remain inside the barrel, making it a must to spend time on regular cleaning to avoid dangerous malfunctions. Part 1 of 3: Getting Started

1 Take a cleaning kit. Whether you buy a ready-made kit from a sporting goods store or assemble the necessary components one at a time, you will need a few essential items in your cleaning arsenal. The basic set includes:
- Cleaning liquid
- Grease, or gun oil
- Wiping
- Tow and tow holder
- Ramrod
- Nylon brush
- Torch
- Cotton swabs
- Microfiber polishing cloth
2 Unload your weapon. Always take the time to properly unload your weapon and double-check that it is unloaded every time you are about to clean it. Remember that there can always be a cartridge ready to fire in the pistol, even after you have taken out the clip, so check and remove this cartridge.
- Once you've opened the chamber, look into the back of the barrel. Make sure there is no cartridge inside the chamber left in the chamber or stuck in the barrel. The pistol is not considered unloaded until you look into the barrel.
3 Disassemble the gun as much as the manufacturer recommends. Check the disassembly instructions in the owner's manual to get the gun ready for cleaning. This way you can get to all the parts that get dirty when shooting.
- Semi-automatic pistols and rifles can most often be disassembled into the main parts: barrel, bolt, aiming bar, frame and clip. Revolvers, shotguns, and most other weapons do not need to be disassembled for cleaning.
- Do not disassemble the weapon in the field for thorough cleaning. Do not disassemble your weapon more than necessary, unless it needs repair. Some weapons do not understand at all, then you just need to open the chamber to clean it.
4 Always clean your weapon in a well-ventilated area. Find a place with good air circulation to clean your weapon. The fumes from the solvent are harmful and can make you sick. Also, when cleaning weapons indoors, remember that the lubricant and solvent used smells nasty, so make your family happy and do not smell everything around.
- Cover your work area with plastic bags, newspapers, or old towels set aside for this purpose. Open the garage door or clean your gun on a bright sunny day to ensure proper cleaning.

Part 2 of 3: Cleaning the Weapon

1 Clean the barrel with a ramrod and tow. Clean the muzzle, or the inside of the barrel, with a cleaning rod, tow holder, and cotton tow that is the right size for your weapon. If you can, start cleaning from the back of the barrel. If you can't, use a muzzle stop. The muzzle stop prevents the ramrod from hitting the bore, which could cause your weapon to malfunction.
- To thoroughly clean the barrel, poke the tow soaked in solvent through the barrel until it comes out at the other end. Do not pull the tow back through the trunk, but remove it. Pulling back the tow will simply put back all the dirt you removed.
2 Scrape the barrel thoroughly with a broach and tow. Remove the tow holder and install the broach. Sweep back and forth the entire length 3-4 times to remove any debris. After that, install the tow holder and wipe the barrel with cotton tow soaked in solvent. Remove it after it comes out of the barrel. Repeat until the tow comes out clean.
- Stretch dry tow through the barrel to dry it, and look carefully to find any debris you missed.
3 Lubricate the barrel. Place a cotton rag on the cleaning rod. Apply a few drops of gun moisturizer or grease to it and run it inside the barrel to apply a thin layer of gun grease to the inside of the barrel.
4 Clean and lubricate the bolt. Apply grease to the brush and clean all parts of the valve. Wipe them dry with a clean cloth.
- After that, lightly lubricate the shutter parts. A thin layer of grease helps prevent rust. Excess grease hardens and dirt adheres to it, so use a small amount.
5 Wipe the remaining parts of your weapon with a gloss cloth. This is a flannel fabric impregnated with silicone grease. It will remove any debris, including fingerprints, and shine.
- If you don't have a special cloth for cleaning your weapons, an old T-shirt and a pair of socks are great for this purpose. Take something unnecessary that you can throw away.

Part 3 of 3: Weapon Maintenance

1 Clean your weapon after each use. Quality firearms are a good investment, whether you use them for sporting purposes, hunting or self-defense. Give him the care he deserves each time he returns from the range.
- The entire cleaning process from start to finish takes only 20 or 30 minutes. It is worth doing it regularly. Perhaps you should remove an old weapon from the back of the closet to clean it, too, once you have all the materials. It won't hurt.
2 Consider purchasing a rope broach and / or an ultrasonic barrel cleaner. As in other cases, advanced technologies are used to clean weapons. For rifles and shotguns, for example, the rope pull is a long, multi-purpose cleaner that makes work quicker and easier, and some have a flashlight on the end that makes it much easier to see the inside of the barrel. With it, you save time and do your work more efficiently.
3 Store firearms unloaded in a cool dry place. To make your weapon last as long as possible, do not store it where it is exposed to the external environment. Store it in a temperature controlled area. Consider buying trigger locks to keep your weapon safe and inaccessible to outsiders.
- Soft or hard cases for weapons can be bought in many places for prices ranging from 750 to 1000 rubles. If you have more money, then consider gun cabinets or even safes for safely storing weapons in a controlled environment.

Tips

When cleaning the firearm, inspect all parts for damage or signs of wear. If you find them, take the weapon to the gunsmith.
You can also clean the barrel with a muzzle brush. To use a muzzle brush, apply solvent to the front of the muzzle and gun grease to the area of the brush behind the front. Throw a weight through the barrel and pull the brush through it.
