BlackBerry® is one of the most popular smartphones that allows the user to do almost everything from talking and sending messages to taking pictures. In addition, it is connected to the Internet and allows you to view the latest news and sports news on the go. Sometimes, however, technical problems lead to malfunctions of the entire smartphone or its individual programs, and if attempts to solve the problem fail, the BlackBerry® must be restarted. Depending on the problem, the smartphone may require a different kind of reboot - mechanical or software.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Restart the BlackBerry® mechanically

1. 1 Do not turn off your BlackBerry®.
2. 2 Open the battery cover on the back of the phone. You need to remove the battery.
3. 3 Wait 30 seconds and replace the battery.
4. 4 Close the battery cover. The BlackBerry® should restart and start working normally.

Method 2 of 2: Soft-restarting your BlackBerry®

1. 1 Restart the BlackBerry® using the software. To do this, the phone must not be switched off. This method allows you to use the keys without removing the battery.
2. 2 Hold the Alt key, then press and hold the Shift key. You need to hold both buttons at the same time.
3. 3 Press the Backspace / Delete button while continuing to hold Alt and Shift.
4. 4 Wait for the BlackBerry® to restart. When the system restarts, you will see the screen go blank. It may take a few minutes to return to normal smartphone settings.
5. 5Release the buttons when the screen turns off.

Tips

• Some of the restart instructions are specific to BlackBerry® models, so it's always worth checking out the instructions. Contact your provider for solutions to common problems with your model. In addition, some manufacturers and providers may reboot the system, returning the phone to the manufacturer's settings. This process will erase all data and settings and return the phone to its original settings.
• The Backspace / Delete, Alt, and Shift keys do not look like a regular keyboard on all BlackBerry® models, but they are still in the same place. Refer to the instructions for key identification.
• A mechanical or software restart of the BlackBerry® does not erase your data and settings.

Warnings

• Do not try to use the software method for BlackBerry® Pearl and BlackBerry® Storm models. These phones do not have a regular keyboard, but they do have SureType® technology or a SurePress® touchscreen. When rebooting these models, follow the instructions or directions from the provider.
