Keypress sounds on Android phones let you know if your keystroke has been registered by the device. But while you are typing text messages or performing any other tasks that require a lot of successive button presses, they can exhaust your nerves. Follow the steps below to turn off key clicks and other touch cues.

Steps

1. 1 Go to Settings. Open the app drawer at the bottom of the home page (a cube made up of rows and columns of smaller cubes) and then find the Settings icon. Depending on your device, the settings icon may look different. Try searching for the phrase "settings" by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner of the applications page.
2. 2 Select Sound to adjust the sound. On some devices, this option may be called Language & Input.
3. 3 Mute the keys. Click on the box labeled Keypress Sound or Screen Tap Sound under the System Notifications heading. This item may have different names on different devices. Some devices may have several options to choose from.
   • Short call: each time you press the dial buttons, the phone will emit a standard short beep.
   • Long call: the phone will beep with a long beep each time you press the dial buttons - a useful setting if you find it difficult to hear the short beep.
   • Switch off: as the name suggests, completely mutes the dial buttons.
4. 4 Customize other screen tapping sounds. Most Android devices also have the ability to customize the screen tap sound, screen lock sound, screen refresh sound, and key vibration.
   • Screen Tap Sound: this setting will play a beep when you tap the screen. It can be useful if you have a hard time determining if the device has registered your press.
   • Screen lock sound: this setting will play a beep when you unlock and lock the screen. It can come in handy if you want to unlock the screen without looking.
   • Screen Refresh Sound: this setting will play a beep when channels and content are updated. You've probably already seen this kind of soundtrack in applications such as Twitter, Facebook or Snapchat. You will hear a beep every time you swipe the screen to refresh the content.
   • Vibration feedback of keys: your phone will vibrate when you press the Home or Back buttons.

Troubleshooting

1. 1 Look for the settings you want. If you cannot find some setting, you can always enter its name and the phone will find it by itself. Click on the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner of the preferences window, and then enter a search term.
   • The search will be performed only inside the "Settings" category that was open at that time. If you want to run a search in the Display & Gestures category, you must first open the Display & Gestures category.
2. 2 Put your phone in silent or vibration mode. In silent or vibration mode, key sounds are disabled by default. You can fix this with the side volume rocker.
   • You can also put your phone in silent or vibration mode by swiping down from the top of the screen and selecting one of the available options.

Tips

• The side volume rocker also controls the volume of the keys you press.

Warnings

• If your sound is turned off, pay special attention to dialing a number so as not to accidentally call the wrong number.
