In this article, we'll show you how to turn off read reports in WhatsApp, which let people you chat with know if you've read their messages. Remember that you cannot turn off read reports in group chats.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On iPhone

1. 1 Launch WhatsApp. Click the green speech cloud icon with a white handset.
   • If this is your first time using WhatsApp, set it up.
2. 2 Click Settings. You will find this option in the lower right corner.
   • If you have opened some correspondence in WhatsApp, first click the "Back" button in the upper left corner.
3. 3 Tap Account. You will find this option at the top of the page.
4. 4 Click Privacy. You will find this option at the top of the page.
5. 5 Move the slider next to Read Receipts to the Off (left) position. It's at the bottom of the screen; so you turn off read reports in personal (not group) correspondence, that is, blue check marks will no longer be displayed.
   • If the slider is white, read receipts are already disabled.

Method 2 of 2: On Android

1. 1 Launch WhatsApp. Click the green speech cloud icon with a white handset.
   • If this is your first time using WhatsApp, set it up.
2. 2 Tap ⋮. You will find this icon in the upper right corner.
   • If some correspondence has opened in WhatsApp, first click the "Back" button in the upper left corner.
3. 3 Click Settings. You will find this option in the lower right corner.
4. 4 Tap Account. You will find this option at the bottom of the page.
5. 5 Click Privacy. You will find this option at the top of the page.
6. 6 Uncheck the box to the right of Read Receipts. You will find this option at the bottom of the page. so you turn off read reports in personal (not group) correspondence, that is, blue check marks will no longer be displayed.

Tips

• If you turn off read reports and hide the time of your last visit to WhatsApp, your contacts will never know that you read their messages.

Warnings

• If you turn off read reports, you also won't know when your contacts will read your messages.
