In this article, we'll show you how to turn off the Screen Reader feature on your Kindle Fire HD tablet.

Method 1 of 2: Via the Settings app

1. 1 Launch the Settings app. Click on the gray gear icon on the home screen.
2. 2 Scroll down to the option Accessibility (Special abilities). Use two fingers to scroll the page because using one finger activates the ability to read aloud the text you touch. Moreover, any option must be pressed twice.
3. 3 Double click on Accessibility (Special abilities). It's near the bottom of the settings page.
4. 4 Double tap VoiceView Screen Reader (Read aloud VoiceView). It's at the top of the page.
   • If you do not see this option, skip this step.
5. 5 Double tap Off (Off) to the right of “Screen Reader”. This is the first option on the page. This will disable the Kindle Fire's Read Aloud feature, which means the tablet will no longer read aloud anything you touch.
   • On some Kindle models, this option is called “Voice Guide”.

Method 2 of 2: Via the dropdown menu

1. 1 Place two fingers on the top of the Kindle screen. Do this decisively so that the tablet recognizes that there are two fingers on the screen.
2. 2 Swipe down on the screen. A shortcut menu will open.
3. 3 Double tap More (More). It's in the upper-left corner of the screen.
4. 4 Double click on Accessibility (Special abilities). It's near the bottom of the screen.
   • If you don't see this option, scroll with two fingers.
5. 5 Double tap VoiceView Screen Reader (Read aloud VoiceView). It's at the top of the page.
   • If you do not see this option, skip this step.
6. 6 Double tap Off (Off) to the right of “Screen Reader”. This is the first option on the page. This will disable the Kindle Fire's Read Aloud feature, which means the tablet will no longer read aloud anything you touch.

Tips

• Turning off Read Aloud will also turn off Explore by Touch.

Warnings

• If you rotate the screen (to landscape orientation) on some Kindle models, the Accessibility tab will not appear.
