Homemade bread is not only delicious, but also easy and cheap to make. This recipe does not require a dough cutter or mixer (although a mixer is recommended).

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 5 teaspoons of sugar (or 1 1/2 tablespoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 5 teaspoons of butter (or 1 1/2 tablespoons)
  • 1 bag of dry yeast or 2 1/4 teaspoons of briquette yeast
  • 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 cups flour, bread flour is better, but all-purpose or unbleached flour works as well
  • Cornstarch or non-stick spray (just to prevent bread from sticking to a bowl or saucepan)

Steps

  1. 1 Spray non-stick spray onto the bread pan.
  2. 2 Preheat a small bowl of hot water. Pour out the water.
  3. 3 Add yeast.
  4. 4 Add about 1 cup of warm water (38 ºC) to the yeast.
  5. 5 Wait for bubbles to appear. This should take about 10 minutes. The mixture will smell strongly of yeast and look frothy when you're ready to use it.
  6. 6 Pour yeast into a large bowl.
  7. 7 Melt butter and add to milk, sugar and salt in yeast mixture.
  8. 8 Add 2 cups flour and stir well. You can use an electric mixer or, if not available, a whisk. As it shown on the picture.
  9. 9 Add the remaining flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until the dough is slightly sticky. The dough will begin to take the shape of a ball.
  10. 10 Place the dough on a lightly floured surface.
  11. 11 Knead with your hands for 10 minutes. To knead by hand, place the heel of your palm and press down on the dough, turn 1/4 turn, repeat.
  12. 12 Form a ball of dough.
  13. 13 Spray non-stick spray into a clean mixing bowl.
  14. 14 Place a ball of dough in a bowl. Turn to coat it with non-stick cooking spray.
  15. 15 Cover with a tea towel.
  16. 16 Let the dough rise for about 1-1 1/2 hours.
  17. 17 Remove the dough from the bowl.
  18. 18 Roll out using a rolling pin.
  19. 19 Form the dough into a loaf.
  20. 20 Place in a bread pan.
  21. 21 Let the dough almost double, it will take about 1 hour.
  22. 22 Bake at 200 ° C for about 30 minutes.
  23. 23 Turn off the gas and let the bread cool down.
  24. 24 Ready.

Tips

  • For a softer crust, spread freshly baked bread crust with chilled ghee.
  • Spray your hands with non-stick spray to keep the dough from sticking to your hands.
  • Try to keep the dough as soft as possible. This will help make a soft loaf of bread.
  • You can add a pinch of sugar to the yeast and water mixture to help the yeast ferment.
  • Try turning the oven on low for a couple of minutes to give it a good heat (about 30 ° C), a test temp. This works great.
  • Use yeast in briquettes. This will help save money when baking. Briquette yeast can be found at grocery stores or ordered online. Dry yeast makes excellent bread.
