Suede is a soft velvety leather that is one of the most popular materials for clothing and accessories. A suede handbag can add sophistication to any outfit. Its only drawback is that cleaning the suede can be a bit of a hassle. Since water leaves marks on the suede, you will have to use unconventional cleaning methods to get the suede purse free of stains.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Using an eraser

1. 1 Blot the stain and let dry if necessary. If the stain is still wet, try removing some of the liquid from it. Blot the stain gently to absorb the liquid rather than pushing it deeper into the suede. Once you've removed as much of the liquid as possible, air dry the suede. Once it's dry, you can try other cleaning methods.
2. 2 Use a suede brush to brush over the dry area. You can find it at your supermarket, online store, or even your local pharmacy. Such a brush will not only help clean up stains, but also preserve the appearance of suede clothing and accessories, which makes it an extremely profitable purchase.    • Alternatively, you can use a nail brush, a toothbrush, or a regular household brush with soft bristles, although of course a suede brush is best.

   • The brush will not only remove excess dirt, but also make it easier to clean using other methods (if the stain is deep).
3. 3 Rub the stain with a white eraser. Find a suede eraser, or use a large pencil eraser. Use a white eraser to clean the suede, not a colored eraser that may leave a mark on it. Only proceed to this step when you are confident that you have removed all the dirt and dry particles with the suede brush.
   • Rub the area gently with an eraser. After a couple of seconds, you should notice how the stain starts to wear off.
   • Continue rubbing the eraser on the suede until the stain is completely gone.
   • You can use fine-grain sandpaper instead of an eraser. Believe it or not, a piece of stale bread will do! Rub the stain with bread or paper until it begins to peel off.
4. 4 Brush the stain again to smooth out the suede. Erasing the stain with an eraser can make the suede leather slightly tangled and roughened. To restore the shine of your purse, scrub all sides with a suede brush. Fluff the suede in this way, and then no one will know that it has ever had a stain!

Method 2 of 3: Cleaning with vinegar and rubbing alcohol

1. 1 Test the effects of vinegar or rubbing alcohol on a small, hidden area of ​​your purse. This step should only be used if the eraser does not help. Before applying the liquid to the entire stain, be sure to test its effect on a small area in case of a negative reaction to this type of suede. Apply a small amount of liquid to the selected area and let it dry. Make sure there are no visible marks on the material.

   • Although both vinegar and rubbing alcohol are quite effective in this matter, they work better on different types of stains. White vinegar, for example, works well for natural stains like salt, dirt, and even food stains. Rubbing alcohol is more suitable for removing "corrosive" stains, such as ink.
2. 2 Take a white rag and use it to rub white vinegar or rubbing alcohol onto the stain. Once you are sure that the suede is reacting well to liquid, soak a white rag in it. Take exactly a white rag to avoid color transfer from the colored one. While water leaves traces on suede, rubbing alcohol and white vinegar do not. It is not necessary to rub the stain, it is better to press the cloth against it so that the liquid completely saturates it.
   • After thoroughly covering the surface of the stain with rubbing alcohol or white vinegar, let it dry. You will not be able to test the method until the suede is completely dry.
   • Vinegar can leave behind a scent, but don't worry - it will wear off soon.
3. 3 Finish with a suede brush. Once the stained area is completely dry, brush it off so it doesn't stand out from the rest of your purse. You may also want to rub the stain with an eraser.
   • When finished, evaluate your work and decide if there is a need for re-cleaning.

Method 3 of 3: Cleaning with cornstarch

1. 1 If the stain is greasy or oily, use some cornstarch. It doesn't matter if your lip gloss drips or a piece of oil gets on your purse in a restaurant, oily stains are very difficult to remove. But not when you have cornstarch. The cornstarch will absorb the oil from the stain.
2. 2 Sprinkle cornstarch over the stain and let sit overnight. When the stain is completely hidden under the starch, lightly nail it into the suede. Then leave him and let him do his thing. After about 12 hours, gently shake the purse over the urn to shave off any remaining starch. Along with the cornstarch, the annoying oil stain will go away.
3. 3 Brush over the affected area on your purse. This will remove any residual cornstarch. Plus, when you smooth out the damaged area, it won't stand out from the rest of your purse. If all goes well, it will not be possible to say that there has ever been a stain on this place at all.
