Is your computer slow to boot from insufficient memory? Need to download more movies or PC games, but unfortunately you ran out of free space? This article will show you how to increase your hard drive space without deleting your precious files.

Steps

1. 1 Run the Disk Cleanup utility.
   
   
   • Double click on "My Computer".
   • Right-click on the C: or D: drive and select Properties.
   • In the "General" tab, select "Disk Cleanup".
2. 2 Delete temporary files.
   
   
   • Click the Start button and select Run.
   • Enter "temp" (without quotes) in the line and click OK.
   • Now you can delete unnecessary files from this folder.
3. 3 Video takes up a lot of space, please delete unnecessary files.
   
   
   • Click the Start button and select Search.
   • Click Pictures, Music or Videos.
   • Select the Video checkbox and click Search.
   • Wait for the search to complete and delete unwanted videos.
4. 4 Remove all unnecessary programs
   
   
   • Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel".
   • Click on Add or Remove Programs.
   • Select any unnecessary programs and click the "Uninstall" button.
5. 5 Empty the basket
   
   
   • Go to your desktop (Windows key + M).
   • Right click on the trash can icon and select "Empty Trash".

Tips

• You can free up a lot of space by deleting the system restore points (which you can select from the Microsoft Windows Disk Cleanup utility).
• You can also free up space by downloading programs such as CCleaner, Glary Utilities, IObit Advanced System Care TuneUp Utilities, Registry Easy, or System Mechanic and running the cleanup function.
• Malware, viruses, and so on can not only damage your computer, but can also take up a lot of space. You can get rid of them by downloading antivirus like Avast, Malwarebytes, or AVG.You can also scan without downloading anything, but simply click "Start", "Run", enter "CMD" (without quotes) and go through the scanning process.
• Defragmenting your hard drive can also help. You can download a good defragmenter such as Defraggler or Analog Disk Defragmenter, or you can use the defragmentation feature in Windows. To run it, click the "Start" button, select "All Programs", "Accessories", "System Tools", "Disk Defragmenter". You can also click Start, My Computer, right-click on the C: drive, select Properties, go to the Tools tab and click Run Defragment.

Warnings

• Never delete files from WINDOWS or system32 folders. This can lead to unwanted results.
