Vinegar is a wonderful natural cleaner that can be used to clean a wide variety of items, including makeup brushes. And don't worry, they won't smell like vinegar after that. Vinegar is a natural deodorant, so when the brushes are dry, you won't smell the vinegar. Use vinegar to rinse off makeup from brushes or to disinfect already clean brushes.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: How to clean your brushes with vinegar

  1. 1 Prepare a solution. Pour a cup of warm or hot water into a mug or jar. Add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and half a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid to it. Mix the solution well.
    • To prepare a solution without detergent, mix two parts vinegar with one part water.
  2. 2 Rinse brushes in solution. Rinse each brush with the solution. Rinse the brush until it is clean, then rinse it under cool water. Rinse each brush separately this way.
  3. 3 Leave the brushes to dry overnight. Blot your brushes with a clean paper towel to remove excess water. Line up the curved bristles with your fingers, returning the brushes to their original shape. Spread the brushes to dry on a paper towel. Leave them to dry overnight.

Method 2 of 2: Disinfect brushes with vinegar

  1. 1 Rinse the brush under running water. Pull the end of the brush down to drain the makeup into the sink. Do not rinse anything other than bristles with water, as water can weaken the glue and paint on the brush.
  2. 2 Apply shampoo to your brush. Use some baby shampoo to clean your brush. Other shampoos will work too, but baby shampoo is much milder. Rub the shampoo into the brush with your fingers or brush across your palm. Rinse out the shampoo brush until the water runs clear.
  3. 3 Prepare a vinegar solution to disinfect your brushes. In a bowl or jar, combine one part water and two parts vinegar (white or apple cider). Rinse the brush bristles in the solution for a minute or so. After that, rinse them again under water to rinse off the vinegar.
  4. 4 Let the brushes dry on a paper towel overnight. Blot the brushes with a paper towel to remove moisture. Smooth out bent bristles with your fingers. Spread the brushes on a paper towel to dry overnight.
