Steps
1 Choose a name for your business. It should be something clear and easy to remember so that customers will recognize you. It is better that the name gives an idea of what you do, and does not resemble the names of other companies with similar topics.
2 Explore other companies providing painting services in the area. Find out their rates to make your business competitive. Find the line - your work shouldn't be too expensive compared to others' work, but not too cheap to make a profit.
3 Get busy with paperwork. Follow the small business laws that apply in your country.
- Make sure you have all the necessary licenses and registrations for the business.
- Get reliable insurance that protects your business, assets and company vehicle. Insurance is required when working with other people's property.
- Study the tax system carefully.
4 Get your finances in order by opening a bank account. Apply for a business credit card and, if necessary, take out a loan.
5 Look for material suppliers with the best prices.
- Ask store owners if they offer a credit or discount system for businesses. Ask if they are willing to provide you with materials for free or at a reduced price if they are used to advertise the store - for example, flower samples.
- Maintain contact with suppliers you would like to work with.
- Order equipment from selected suppliers. If you're on a tight budget, get the essentials first - ladders, workwear, brushes, and whatever you need for your first projects. The rest of the equipment can be purchased as needed.
6 Allocate a portion of your advertising budget. The amount and quality of advertisements will depend on your financial situation.

- For cheaper advertising, print flyers and business cards.
- Advertise on a company car.
- Join local small business development organizations to partner with other entrepreneurs.
7 Develop a reward system for clients who advertise your business. For example, you can offer discounts on future work to those who bring in new customers.
8 Never take more orders than you are able to complete on time. Disappointing a client can ruin your reputation. If your business is growing fast, hire assistants. If you can't afford to hire full-time assistants yet, you can start out with contracts for individual projects. Plus, it allows you to get to know people before signing up for long-term work with them.
