Tired of the default cursor? Replace it with a more original one! In Windows, changing the cursor is quite easy, but in Mac OS you have to work hard, since this system does not support third-party cursors. Many cursors can be found on the internet.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Windows

1. 1 Find cursors that you can download. There are many sites on the Internet where you can download cursors. You can replace the default cursor with any third-party cursor.Cursors can be downloaded from the following sites:
   • Open Cursor Library - rw-designer.com/cursor-library
   • DeviantArt - deviantart.com/browse/all/customization/skins/windows/cursors/
   • Customize.org - customize.org/cursor
2. 2 Download archive with cursors. In most cases, cursors are downloaded as an archive (ZIP file). Never download cursors in EXE format, as in this case you risk infecting your computer with malware.
   • It is not necessary to download the archive to change the cursor - several types of cursors are preinstalled in Windows.
3. 3 Unpack the downloaded archive (ZIP file). To do this, double click on the zip file. Simple cursors are in CUR format, while animated cursors are in ANI format.
4. 4 Open the folder.C: Windows Cursors... This folder contains all cursors installed on this computer.
5. 5 Drag the downloaded cursors to the folder.Cursors... If you are prompted for an administrator password, click Continue and enter your password. Remember that admin access is required to install new cursors.
6. 6 Open Control Panel. You can select a new cursor through the Control Panel.
   • In Windows 7, Vista, XP, click "Start" - "Control Panel".
   • In Windows 8.1, right-click on Start and select Control Panel, or click Ctrl+X and select "Control Panel".
7. 7 Click Mouse or click Hardware and Sound - Mouse. The available option depends on the Control Panel view settings.
8. 8 Click on the "Pointers" tab. On it you will find the current circuit and cursor settings.
   • In the "Schematic" section, open the drop-down menu to select one of the preset cursors.
9. 9 Highlight the cursor you want. You can change the current cursor to any of the preset cursors. The standard cursor is labeled as "Main Mode" and the cursor for selecting text is labeled as "Highlight Text".
10. 10 Click.Browse .... The System Explorer window appears with the Cursors folder open. Highlight the desired cursor and click Open.
    • Change any other cursor in the same way.
11. 11 Click.Apply. The changes will take effect, that is, a new cursor will appear on the screen.
    • To restore the default cursor, highlight it in the cursor list and click Default.

Method 2 of 2: Mac OS

1. 1 Resize the cursor. On OS X, you cannot replace the default cursor with a third-party cursor; moreover, in this system, the design of the cursor depends on a particular program, not on the system. In the System Preferences menu, you can change the size of the cursor. To change the cursor itself, you will have to use a special program (read below).
   • Open the Apple menu and click System Preferences.
   • Click "Accessibility" and go to the "Screens" tab.
   • In the Cursor Size section, use the slider to resize the cursor.
2. 2 Download and install Mousecape, which allows you to use third-party cursors. It is a free program for installing third-party cursor packages in OS X. Mousecape is by far the easiest way to change the cursor in OS X.
   • Mousecape can be downloaded from the website github.com/alexzielenski/Mousecape/releases... Download the latest version of the Mousecape.zip file and drag the .app folder to your Applications folder.
3. 3 Find the cursors you want. Use Mousecape to download CAPE cursor packs. These packages can be found on many sites, including the DeviantArt site. Moreover, drag an image into the Mousecape window to create a cursor, that is, you can use Windows cursor graphic files to create new cursors on Mac OS.
4. 4 Start Mousecape. A list of available cursors will be displayed and will most likely be empty.
5. 5 Add CAPE files (if any). If you have already downloaded the CAPE files, add them to Mousecape by dragging and dropping the files directly into the program window.
6. 6 Press to create a new cursor.⌘ Cmd+N... In the list that opens, highlight the desired cursor and press ⌘ Cmd+Eto change it. Enter a name for the new cursor.
   • If you are using a Retina display, check the box next to the Retina option.
7. 7 Click.+. This will create a new object in a new CAPE file.
8. 8 Drag the image you want to the first box. If you want to use the zoomed cursor, drag additional copies of the image to adjacent fields.
9. 9 In the drop-down menu "Type" select the desired type of cursor. The standard system cursor is referred to as the "Arrow".
10. 10 Change the values ​​for the Hotspot parameter. It determines the actual position of the pointer in the picture. The hotspot starts at the top left corner of the image. The first value is the number of pixels as the hotspot moves to the right, and the second value is the number of pixels as it moves down. Entering the new values ​​will display the position of the new hotspot.
11. 11 Save the created cursor. To do this, click "File" - "Save" or just click ⌘ Command+S... Now you can close the cursor creation window.
12. 12 Double click on the created cursor, which will be displayed in the list. A preview of the new cursor will open. Double click on the cursor to replace the current cursor with it.

Warnings

• Do not click on banner ads and pop-ups that advertise cursors. This puts you at risk of infecting your computer with malware. Download cursors from well-known and trusted sources.
