Sugar ants are very easy to get rid of. First, find out where they enter the house from. Then place baits near all points of entry into the house and where they move. The ants will take the bait to their colony and they will all eat it, which will destroy the entire colony. Buy bait from the store or make it with more natural insect repellents.

Method 1 of 3: Getting Rid of Sugar Ants

1. 1 Find out where the ants enter the house. Before solving the problem with ants, find out where they enter the house. Entry points are usually windows and doors. Ants also often enter a home through cracks and holes in walls and floors.
2. 2 Place baits near entry points to poison the ants. Once you've learned how the ants enter your home, set up baits near all entry points. The ants will then carry the bait back to the nest. As a result, this will lead to the death of the entire ant colony.

Method 2 of 3: Using home remedies

1. 1 Poison the ants with boric acid and honey. Mix equal amounts of honey and boric acid in a bowl. Stir everything well until a paste forms. Pour the paste onto cardboard and place it where the ants enter the house. Prepare a new bait every two days until the ants are gone.
2. 2 Try eliminating ants with borax and sugar. Mix 11 grams of borax with 360 ml of water and 100 grams of sugar. Dip a few cotton balls into this mixture to soak them in. Place cotton balls on top of the lids and leave them where you marked the ants.
3. 3 Sprinkle white vinegar on the ants. Pour equal amounts of white vinegar and distilled water into a household spray bottle. Spray the solution directly onto the ants. Then spray the areas where the ants enter the house and the paths they move along. Doing so will destroy their pheromone trails and scare them away from home.
4. 4 Spray the ants with lemon juice. The acid in lemon juice is capable of killing ants and disrupting their pheromone pathways. Pour 240 ml water and 60 ml lemon juice into a spray bottle. Spray ants to kill them, and house entry points and ant trails to keep them away from the house.

Method 3 of 3: Using store-bought insect repellents

1. 1 Buy ant bait. If you decide to take out ants with store-bought bait, make sure it is designed specifically for ants. The most common baits include abamectin, fipronil, sulfuramide, propoxur, and orthoboric acid.

If you decide to buy an aerosol insect repellent, such as permethrin, bifenthrin, or cyfluthrin, make sure it says “for indoor use”.
