When open shoe season is just around the corner, you want to get rid of rough, dry and lumpy skin on your feet. You can use exfoliating socks if your skin is not in its best shape after winter. The peeling contains various natural acids to exfoliate dry dead skin cells, so that after the procedure, the feet will become soft and delicate to the look and feel. Since the exfoliating peel comes in the form of socks, it can even be done at home. This means that you can have smooth and well-groomed feet at any time.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Prepare your legs

  1. 1 Wash your feet. Feet should be thoroughly washed to remove dirt, sebum, or other contaminants that may interfere with the penetration of the peeling's active ingredients into the skin. Use warm water and a shower or soap to wash your feet.
    • It is convenient to use an exfoliating peel after a shower or bath.
  2. 2 Steam your feet in the water for a few minutes. When your feet are clean, fill a small basin, foot bath or regular bathtub with enough water to completely cover your feet. Soak them in water for 10-15 minutes to steam the skin and allow it to more easily absorb the active ingredients of the peel.
    • If your feet are particularly dry and rough, you can steam your feet for up to half an hour to thoroughly soften the skin.
  3. 3 Pat your feet dry. When peeling is applied, excess moisture on the feet can reduce the concentration of the peeling's active ingredients. When you're done steaming your feet, pat them dry with a clean towel to prepare them for the exfoliation.

Part 2 of 3: Apply the exfoliation

  1. 1 Cut off the neck of the socks. Almost all exfoliating foot peels are sold as plastic socks with all the ingredients inside. Thanks to this, the socks are comfortable to use and keep on your feet during the entire procedure. Remove the socks from the packaging and use scissors to cut the neck along the indicated line.
    • New peeling socks are always sold sealed so that the solution does not leak before use.
    • It is best to proceed as follows: open one sock, put it on your leg, and only then open the second. This way, the exfoliation will not spill while you secure the socks to your leg.
  2. 2 Lock your socks to your feet. Once you have opened your socks, put them on like regular socks. There are self-adhesive strips in the package for fixing the socks: remove the protective layer and fasten the strips on the legs.
    • Usually, the retainer strips do not attach very well, so it is better to glue them to your skin rather than to the polyethylene. The leather is more uneven than the plastic material, which improves the adhesion of the adhesive.
  3. 3 Wear regular socks over the exfoliation socks. It is very difficult to walk in plastic socks because they slip a lot. Slip a pair of regular socks over the peeling socks to make the procedure more comfortable and easier to move around.
    • It is best to use thicker socks, as they will be more effective at creating contact of acids from the peel with the skin of the feet than simply wearing plastic socks.
  4. 4 Put on your exfoliating socks for an hour. When the socks are tight on your feet, leave them for an hour or for the time indicated in the instructions. It is best not to walk while you are wearing your exfoliation socks to avoid slipping or falling, so take this time to rest.
    • If your feet are very dry, you may want to leave your socks on for more than one hour. Peeling for two hours can result in more effective exfoliation.

Part 3 of 3: Take care of your feet after exfoliation

  1. 1 Remove your socks for exfoliation. When the procedure is over, take off your regular socks. Then carefully remove the peeling socks and discard them in the trash can. Rub the rest of the product into the skin.
    • Although the skin on the feet has already absorbed some of the peel, there may still be a small amount of the product left on it, which can make the skin very slippery. Remove your socks near where you want to wash your feet so you don't fall.
  2. 2 Rinse your feet with warm water. After you have removed your socks, rinse off the remaining product from your feet with warm water. You can shower or bath, or wipe your feet with a damp cloth.
  3. 3 Wait a few days for the skin to peel off. You will not see the peeling results immediately. It usually takes two to three days after the procedure for the skin to peel off, although it can take up to six days. The skin will exfoliate on its own, but you can use a loofah (pumice stone) or washcloth to speed up the removal of dead skin cells.
    • If the skin on your feet does not begin to peel off on the third or fourth day, steam your feet in warm water for 15–20 minutes to start the process.
    • Before exfoliating (and even after the process has already begun), do not use a moisturizing foot cream or body lotion. This can stop the peeling process.

Tips

  • You can exfoliate monthly to keep your feet soft and tender.
  • Although AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) and BHA (beta hydroxy acid) are safe for foot exfoliation, check with your doctor before using them if you have calluses, warts, open wounds, or tender feet. If you have diabetes, you should also check with your doctor before using this remedy.
  • When your feet stop peeling off, apply a greasy foot cream daily to keep the exfoliating effect longer.

Warnings

  • Do not use foot exfoliators if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
