This article shows you how to add contacts from your Gmail account to the Contacts app on iPhone. To do this, you need to add a Gmail account, if it is not already on the iPhone, or activate the contacts of an already added Gmail account.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: How to add a Gmail account to the Contacts app

1. 1 Open the Settings app . It's a gray gear icon.
2. 2 Scroll down the page and tap Accounts and passwords. To find this option, scroll down about a third of the page.
3. 3 Tap Add account. This option is located at the bottom of the screen.
4. 4 Please select Google. You will find this option in the middle of the screen. The Gmail login page will open.
5. 5 Enter your email address that is associated with your Google account.
   • Or enter your phone number associated with your account.
6. 6 Click on Further. You will find this option in the lower right corner of the screen.
7. 7 Enter your Google password. Enter your password in the field in the middle of the screen.
8. 8 Tap Further. The Gmail account will be added to the iPhone; the settings for the added account will open.
9. 9 Activate contacts. If the slider to the right of the "Contacts" option is green, the contacts are already activated; otherwise, tap the white slider at the "Contacts" option to activate the contacts.
10. 10 Click on Save. This button can be found in the upper right corner of the screen. The Gmail account will be saved on the iPhone, and its contacts will be added to the Contacts app.

Method 2 of 2: How to activate contacts of an already added Gmail account

1. 1 Open the Settings app . It's a gray gear icon.
2. 2 Scroll down the page and tap Accounts and passwords. To find this option, scroll down about a third of the page.
3. 3 Select an account. Tap the Gmail account for which you want to activate contacts.
   • If you only have one Gmail account on iPhone, tap Gmail.
4. 4 Click on the white slider next to "Contacts" . It will turn green - This means that the contacts of the Gmail account will be added to the Contacts app.
   • If this slider is green, your Gmail contacts are already activated on your iPhone.

Tips

• If you can't add contacts, log into Gmail on your computer. Most likely, you need to confirm that you are logging into your account from a different device.

Warnings

• If you add a Google Account to the Contacts app, your iPhone also adds Gmail calendar entries and mail items. To avoid this, click on the green sliders next to the Mail and Calendar options found in the Gmail account settings section of the Settings app. The sliders will turn white.
