Darts is a great way to spend time with good friends or even the people you just met. Darts is a great game that anyone can play whenever they want. Read our article to learn how to throw darts and score points correctly, as well as the different ways darts can be played.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: How to Determine Targets and Score

  1. 1 Darts targets are usually all standard. Each target consists of sections (or sectors) numbered in a different order from 1 to 20. When playing darts, you need to throw darts at the target and count the points according to which section you enter.
  2. 2 The target sections are also intersected by two rings - an external and an internal one. If the dart hits the outer ring, indicated in green or red, then the player receives twice as many points as indicated above the section.
    • For example, if you hit the outer ring in sector 18, then you score 36 points.
  3. 3 What happens if you hit the inner ring. When you hit the red or green inner ring, your points triple.
    • For example, if you hit the inner ring in sector 18, then you win 54 points.
  4. 4 The center of the target has two parts. The center of the target is called "bullseye" in English. In Russian it will be "apple". The inside of the target (usually red) in English would be “double bull” or “cork”. The outside of the center of the target (usually green) is called "single bull" or simply "bull". Know this just in case. Suddenly you will go to London to visit your friends next weekend.
    • If your dart hits the green part of the apple, then you score 25 points.
    • If you hit the red part of the apple, you gain 50 points.
  5. 5 The rest of the target is divided into 20 separate sections, each of which is numbered. If the dart hits a sector colored yellow (sometimes white) or black, then the player scores points corresponding to the number of this sector.
    • For example, you hit the black field of sector 18. You get exactly 18 points.

Method 2 of 4: How to Throw a Dart

  1. 1 You must stand upright and steady. You don't have to lean forward or backward too much.
    • If you are right-handed, keep your right foot in front and your left slightly behind. Place most of your weight on your front foot, but do not lean too much forward.
    • If you are left-handed, then put your left foot forward. Move most of your weight onto it, but do not lean forward too much.
  2. 2 Place your feet firmly on the floor. It is very important to keep your balance at the moment of the throw. Otherwise, you may throw the dart in the wrong place.
  3. 3 Hold the dart correctly in your fingers. Take the dart with your dominant hand and find its center of gravity. The thumb should be slightly behind the center of gravity. Hold the dart with your other fingers as you feel comfortable.
  4. 4 Hold the tip of the dart slightly upward and move your hand back and forth. Any unnecessary movement will mean that the dart will not fly directly.
  5. 5 Smoothly throw the dart at the target. Don't throw too hard. It is unnecessary and dangerous.
    • Darts does not require a lot of strength to stick it into a target. Remember that the goal of the game is to score points, not to determine who is physically stronger.

Method 3 of 4: Game "01"

  1. 1 "01" is the most common form of play. The goal of the game is very simple - each player must reduce their score to zero.
    • Why is it called "01"? "01" indicates that each player starts the game with a score that ends in "01". Usually they start playing with a score of 301 (two opponents) or 501 (playing in pairs). If there are many players in the teams, then the game can be started from 1001 as well.
  2. 2 Mark the line of the throw. The line of throw in English would be “oche” (pronounced “oki”). The distance from the line to the target should be 2.37 m.
  3. 3 Throw the dart to decide who goes first. The person who throws closer to the bull's-eye throws first.
  4. 4 Each player throws three darts. Then points are deducted from the starting score.
    • For example, if a player, starting at 301 points, knocks out 54 points, then his new score will be 247 points.
  5. 5 When players start approaching zero, they only need to hit the right sectors. In order to win (or "close" the game), you must reach exactly zero. Overkill does not count. In addition, you definitely need to knock out a double point.
    • For example, if the player has 2 points left to knock out, then he must hit the outer double ring of sector 1. If he has 18 points left, then he must hit the double nine.
    • If hitting a double point at once is impossible, for example, you have 19 points left, then you can shoot a three first to bring the total to 16. Then you can throw a dart at a double eight to end the game.

Method 4 of 4: Playing Cricket

  1. 1 For this game, you only focus on sectors 15 to 20 and the bull's-eye. You need to "close" these sectors with three throws into a single (yellow or black) sector field, or get into the double ring of the sector, and then into its single field, or get into the triple inner ring of the sector.
  2. 2 You will need a board and chalk for this game. Draw numbers from 15 to 20 on the board and mark on it which numbers were covered and who scored how many points.
  3. 3 If you have covered any number that your opponent has not yet covered, then you collect the corresponding number of points. For example, you covered the number 16, but your opponent did not, then this means that you get 16 points.
  4. 4 The one who covers all the numbers and scores the most points wins. You don't have to win by covering all the numbers first. The main thing is to close the numbers with the most points.
    • The green bullseye will be 25 points, and the red bullseye will be 50.

Tips

  • Always keep moving your hand to follow the dart. After you throw the dart, do not stop your hand in the middle of the throw.
  • Try not to make any unnecessary movements. They will be a waste of energy and a hindrance to a well-aimed throw.

What do you need

  • Target
  • Three darts for each player
  • Rival
