This article will show you how to add an image to a file in Adobe Illustrator on a Windows or Mac OS X computer, or in Adobe Illustrator Draw, which is a mobile application with fewer features than the computer version of Illustrator.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On a computer

1. 1 Open the file in Adobe Illustrator. To do this, start Illustrator, click File (on the menu bar)> Open, and then select the file to which you want to add the image.
   • To create a new file, click File (on the menu bar)> New.
2. 2 Click on File on the menu bar. This menu is at the top of the screen.
3. 3 Click on Place.
4. 4 Select the image you want to add.
5. 5 Click on Place.
6. 6 Place the image as needed.
   • Drag a corner of the image inward or outward to resize the image.
7. 7 Click on Connected. It's in the toolbar at the top of the window.
8. 8 Click on File on the menu bar.
9. 9 Click on Save. The selected image is added to the file.

Method 2 of 2: On a mobile device

1. 1 Open Adobe Illustrator Draw. Its icon looks like an orange feather (from a fountain pen) on a black background.
   • Adobe Illustrator Draw is a free app available from the Apple App Store (iPhone / iPad) or the Google Play Store (Android).
   • Sign in to your Adobe account (unless it happened automatically). Click "Register" if you don't have an account.
2. 2 Click on the project. Select the project where you want to add the image.
   • To create a new project, click on the white "+" sign in the orange circle in the lower right corner of the screen.
3. 3 Choose a format. A list of formats will be displayed on the right side of the screen.
4. 4 Click on the orange sign +. It's in a white circle on the right side of the screen.
5. 5 Click on Image layer. It's near the bottom of the screen.
6. 6 Select the source of the image.
   • Tap On [device] to select a photo in the device memory.
   • Click “Take Photo” to take a photo using the camera of your device.
   • Click My Files to use an image stored in Adobe Creative Cloud.
   • Click Market or Adobe Stock to buy and / or download someone else's image.
   • When prompted, allow Adobe Illustrator Draw to access your device's photos or camera.
7. 7 Click or take a photo to add.
8. 8 Place the image as needed.
   • Drag a corner of the image inward or outward to resize the image.
9. 9 Click on Ready. The selected image is added to your Illustrator Draw project.
