In WhatsApp, you can block a contact so as not to receive messages from him, prohibit viewing your photos, block access to information about the last time you used the application, and so on. You can block a WhatsApp contact on your Android device, iPhone, or using WhatsApp Web.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: iOS

1. 1 Click on the WhatsApp app icon.
2. 2 Click on "Settings". This icon is in the lower right corner of the screen and looks like a gear.
3. 3 Click on "Account".
4. 4 Click Privacy.
5. 5 Click Blocked.
6. 6 Click Add.
7. 7 Click on a contact. He will be added to the list of blocked contacts.
   • To unblock a contact, click on the contact on the Blocked page, scroll down to the bottom of the Contact Information section, and then click Unblock.

Method 2 of 3: Android

1. 1 Click on the WhatsApp app icon.
2. 2 Click on the menu icon. It is located in the upper right corner of the screen and looks like three vertical dots.
3. 3 Click on "Settings".
4. 4 Click on "Account".
5. 5 Click Privacy.
6. 6 Click Blocked.
7. 7 Click the Add Contact icon. The Add Contact icon will be displayed in the upper right corner of the screen; he looks like a person with a plus sign.
8. 8 Click on a contact. He will be added to the list of blocked contacts.
   • To block multiple contacts, add them to the list one by one by clicking the Add Contact icon.
   • To unblock a contact, press and hold the contact on the Blocked page, and then select Unblock [contact name] from the menu.
9. 9 Block an unfamiliar user. To do this, simply click the "Block" button, which is displayed when messages come from unknown numbers (unknown numbers are numbers that are not in the list of your contacts).
   • Currently, you cannot block an unfamiliar user before you receive a message from him.

Method 3 of 3: WhatsApp Web

1. 1 Open www.web.whatsapp.com on your computer.
   • You can also click here to open the web app.
2. 2 Open WhatsApp on your smartphone. Click on the WhatsApp icon to launch this application on your Android device or iPhone.
3. 3 Open WhatsApp Web on your smartphone. If you launch WhatsApp on your smartphone, it is quite easy to switch to the WhatsApp Web version or the computer version of the application.
   • iPhone: Click on the "Settings" icon in the lower right corner of the screen and click on "WhatsApp Web". Allow WhatsApp to access the device's camera; a QR scanner will open.
   • Android device: Tap Chats at the top of the screen. Click on the menu icon at the top of the screen (it looks like three vertical dots). Click "WhatsApp Web". A QR scanner will open.
4. 4 Scan the QR code. Point your smartphone's scanner at the QR code that appears on your computer screen. The smartphone will automatically scan the code.

    • To unblock a contact, click the X next to the contact's name. When prompted, click Unblock.

Tips

• Currently, you cannot block an unfamiliar user before you receive a message from him.
• You cannot unblock your number if it is blocked on another user's device.
• When you block a user, he will not be notified about it; if you are blocked, you will not receive any notification either.
• From the moment they are blocked, blocked users are not informed about changes to your pictures, name or status of your profile.
• Information about the last visit to the application and whether you are currently using it is not available to blocked users.
• If you block a user, he will not be removed from the contact list, just as you will not be removed from his contact list. To remove a user, remove them from your contact list.
• If you decide to unblock a user later, you will not receive any messages that they sent when they were blocked.
• According to certain signs, the user can find out that he was blocked.
• Messages from a blocked contact can be received in a group chat, but not directly (as a private message).
