In this article, we'll show you how to prevent your iPhone, iPad or computer from syncing data such as photos, contacts and calendars with iCloud, Apple's cloud service. You can turn off iCloud by signing out of iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, or computer. Keep in mind that from then on you will no longer be able to access data stored in iCloud, at least until you log in again.

To step

Method 1 of 3: On a Mac

  1. Open the Apple menu click on System Preferences .... This is one of the top options in the dropdown menu. Now the System Preferences window will open.
  2. click on click on Log out. This button is on the left side of the iCloud window.
  3. Select the data you want to keep. Place a check mark next to each item (eg "Contacts") of which you want to save a copy on your computer.
    • If you want to delete all data, make sure that none of the boxes are checked.
  4. click on Keep a copy. That's the blue button at the bottom of the window. Now your selected data will be saved on your computer and you will be logged out.
    • You may be asked if you want to save or delete iCloud passwords. In that case, click "Save on this Mac" to keep them or "Delete" to delete them.

Method 2 of 3: On a Windows computer

  1. Open Start Type icloud. Now the computer will search for the program "iCloud".
  2. click on click on Log out. This button is in the lower left corner of the iCloud window.
    • If you are asked to enter your Apple ID when iCloud opens, you are already signed out.
  3. click on Remove from PC. Now all iCloud data will be deleted from your computer and you will be logged out of iCloud.
    • It may take a few minutes to log out.

Method 3 of 3: On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Settings Tap your Apple ID. That's the box with your name in it, the top option in the menu.
  2. Scroll down and tap Log out. This option is at the very bottom.
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password. Enter the password you use to sign in to your Apple account.
  4. Tap on Turn off. This option is at the bottom of the "Apple ID Password" window. This will disable the "Find My iPhone" feature on this device under the current iCloud account.
  5. Select the data you want to keep on your iPhone or iPad. You can indicate which iCloud data (e.g. contacts, calendars, etc.) you want to keep on your device by clicking the appropriate slider Tap on Log out. It's in the top right corner of the screen.
  6. Tap on Log out in the pop-up window. This confirms that you want to sign out and that iCloud will be disabled on your iPhone or iPad.

Warnings

  • It is always a good idea to back up your personal information to a computer or other location before turning off iCloud. If an error causes your computer or device to be erased after turning off iCloud, all of your data may be gone forever.
