This wikiHow teaches you how to download an audio version of a YouTube video. The most reliable way is to use the free 4K Video Downloader program, but you can also access the online website Convert2MP3 if you want to download videos that do not contain music or copyrighted content. Note: we cannot use the above services to download audio from a YouTube video that is not available in the current country.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: By 4K Video Downloader

1. 

   Download and install 4K Video Downloader. Go to https://www.4kdownload.com/products/product-videodownloader using a web browser, then click the link Get 4K Video Downloader on the left side of the page. The 4K Video Downloader installation file will start downloading; After downloading, you can install 4K Video Downloader as follows:
   • On Windows - Double click the setup file, click Yes when prompted, and follow the on-screen instructions.
   • On Mac Double-click the installation file, verify the installation if necessary, click and drag the 4K Video Downloader application icon to drop it into the "Applications" folder and follow the on-screen instructions.

   Go to the YouTube video you want to use. Open YouTube by going to https://www.youtube.com/ in a web browser, then find the video for which you want to download audio and click the video to open it.
   • Make sure that you are selecting a separate video and not a playlist (or video from a playlist).

   Copy the URL of the YouTube video. Select the entire address in the URL bar at the top of the browser window, then click Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘ Command+C (Mac) to copy the address.

   Open 4K Video Downloader. If the program doesn't open automatically, click or double-click the green and white 4K Video Downloader app icon.
   • On the Mac, you'll need to find the 4K Video Downloader app in the Applications folder.

   Click Paste Link (Paste link) in the upper left corner of the 4K Video Downloader window. The YouTube video URL you copied will be pasted here.

   Click the cell Download Video (Download video). This option is in the upper-left side of the window after 4K Video Downloader has found the video. A drop-down menu will appear.

   Click Extract Audio (Extract audio). This option is in the drop-down menu.

   Click the "Format" drop-down box. This option is in the upper-right side of the window. A menu with different audio formats will appear.

   Choose the format. The default format is MP3, but you can click any audio format that appears in the drop-down menu according to your specific needs.
   • If in doubt, choose MP3 because this format is compatible with most players and audio services.

    Choose quality. Check the box next to one of the quality options (such as "High Quality") you want to use.

    Click Browse (Browse) and choose where to save. Click the button Browse In the lower-right part of the window, then click the folder where you want to save the downloaded audio file, then click Save (Save).
    • On the Mac, click the "Where" drop-down menu and choose where to save.

    Click Extract (Extract) in the lower right corner of the window. The file will begin downloading to your computer and saved to the download location you chose.
    • If you get an error where the video can't be downloaded, try downloading another video's audio file through 4K Video Downloader without deleting the downloads. The error is usually corrected with this action.
    • If the video can't download due to copyright error, please wait a few hours and then try again. 4K Video Downloader often fixes copyright issues during the day.

Method 2 of 2: By Convert2MP3

1. 

   Open YouTube. Go to https://www.youtube.com/ in your computer's web browser.
   • You don't need to be signed in to your YouTube account unless you want to download age-restricted videos.

2. 

   Select YouTube videos. Find the video for which you want to download audio, then click the video title to open it.
   • Make sure that you are selecting a standalone video and not a playlist (or video from a playlist).

3. 

   Copy the URL of the YouTube video. Select the entire address in the URL bar at the top of the browser window, then click Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘ Command+C (Mac) to copy the address.

4. 

   Open Convert2MP3. Go to http://convert2mp3.net/en/ using a similar web browser.

5. 

   Click the first text box at the top center of the page.

6. 

   Paste the YouTube URL. Press Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘ Command+V (Mac) to paste the address.

   Click the cell mp3. A drop-down menu will appear.

8. 

   Select an audio format. Click the audio format you want to use in the "Audio" section of the menu.
   • If you don't know what format to use, choose MP3.

9. 

   Click convert (convert). This orange button is to the right of the top field. Videos will be uploaded to Convert2MP3.
   • If the video cannot be downloaded error due to the violation of converting music videos in the country where you appear, we cannot use Convert2MP3 to download the audio of the video. Try using 4K Video Downloader.

10. 

    Click tiếp tục (continue) when prompted. The tag will be attached to the audio file and take you to the download page.
    • You can also click Skip this page (no tags) if you do not want the audio file to be tagged with it (eg artist name).

    Click Download (Download). This green button is near the bottom of the page. The video's audio file will begin downloading to your computer, but you may need to choose where to save it first before the download will begin.
