Remember the old days, when there was a "shared line", dozens of homes shared the same phone line. It's almost gone these days, but it's fun with a few people talking to each other on the phone! Almost all phones have a 3-way call feature, and there are also many networks that support this type of communication. If you want to call 2 friends at the same time but don't know what to do, read this post!

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Use a Desk Phone

1. 

   Call the first person. Dial their number as you would normally, and let them know that you are about to call a third person.

   Activate three-way calling. Quickly press and release the hang-up (or flash) button. Don linger, or you’ll hang up on the first person!

3. 

   Activate 3-way calling. Quickly press and release the hang-up button (hold call, or flash). Don't hesitate, otherwise you will make people wait too long and hang up!

   Call second person. Wait until you hear a long sound on the phone, call the second person. When the person answers, let them know you are on a 3-way call.

5. 

   Press and release the hang-up button (hold call, or flash). Now everyone is connected. advertisement

Method 2 of 3: Using iPhone

1. 

   
   
   Call the first person, when the call starts, press the button "add call".

2. 

   Call second person. Once this call has been established, press “Merge calls” again.

3. 

   To end a call with a person: Click “Conversation”, then click the red phone icon next to the person, and select “End call”.

4. 

   To address someone in the group specifically: Click "Conversations", then click the "Private" button next to the person's name. Select "Merge calls" to continue the general chat.

   Note: With GSM phones (using AT&T network), you can add up to 5 people to a call; With CDMA devices (usually on Verizon), options are more limited. See the integration service and user manual for more details. advertisement

Method 3 of 3: make calls with Verizon networks (non-iPhones)

1. 

   Call the first person. When the call is established, enter the phone number of the 2nd person.

2. 

   Press the CALL key. When this key is pressed, the first person is placed into call waiting status, and makes the second call.

3. 

   Press the CALL key again. When the second person answers, press the CALL key to make a multi-way call.
   • If the second person does not answer, Press the CALL key twice to end the call and return to the first person.

     

   • Note per Verizon: If you are traveling and the instructions in work, or if you are in OH, MI, MN, SD or Southern IL, you will also need to press SEND before dialing the number of the second person.
   • Verizon network notes: If you are traveling there and the user manual no longer works, or if you are in OH, MI, MN, SD or south IL, you need to press the CALL key "before" Enter the number of the 2nd person.

3-Way Call With Regular Phones

1. Call the first person. When the call is made, press the "Flash" key.

   

2. Call the second person. When the person answers, press "Flash" again.

   

3. Wish everyone a happy talk!

   

Advice

• If the person you are talking to adds another person, making a 3-way call, then when you choose to hang up, they can still talk to each other.
• In some phones, 3-way call is sometimes referred to as "conference call".
• You can make consecutive calls to third parties by pressing the call hold key for 2 seconds, listening to a click, then adding a 3rd party to the call.
• Refer to the user manual for more help.

Warning

• Not every network or any place offers 3-way calling or conference calling. Some networks charge higher rates for multidirectional calls, and most, long distance and traffic rates will still apply.
• If you are calling someone and disconnecting, you should end up chatting with them.
