This wikiHow teaches you how to use the iPhone's speaker feature to amplify phone volume during a call. You can turn on the iPhone speakerphone during a call, or change the setting for iPhone to turn on the speakerphone every time you make or receive an incoming call. Unfortunately we cannot use the speaker to amplify the volume for video or voice messages.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Turn on speakerphone during call

1. 

   Phone of the iPhone. Tap the Phone app with the white phone icon on a green background.

   Settings for iPhone. Tap the Settings app with the gear icon in the gray frame.

   General. This option is at the top of the page, so just scroll down a bit. Page General will open.

   Click Accessibility (Accessibility). This option is near the bottom of the screen.

   Scroll down and tap Call Audio Routing. This option is at the bottom of the second largest group of options near the bottom of the page.

   Click on the option Speaker is at the bottom of the "Call Audio Routing" menu. A checkmark will appear to the left of the option Speaker shows that the speaker is set as the default call audio feature.
   • When this option is enabled, all incoming or outgoing calls automatically use the loudspeaker. You will be able to turn off the speaker by pressing the icon Speaker when the call is in progress.

Advice

• If your iPhone uses Visual Voicemail (Voicemail with picture), you can use the speaker to listen to voicemails on the Phone app. Proceed by clicking the card Voice mail (Voicemail) in the lower right corner of the Phone app screen, select voicemail, tap Speaker then press the button Play (Play).
• Using the speaker while driving or when busy is a great way to maintain a conversation without being completely distracted on the road.

Warning

• Limit your use of the speaker in a public or quiet place.
