This article shows you how to view Outlook email files (MSG) on your computer without using Outlook. You can use a number of online file conversion sites to view and download MSG files in PDF format with attached MSG file data.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Use Zamzar

1. 

   Know when to use Zamzar. If you want to download a PDF version of an email with an attachment data that doesn't exceed Outlook's 20MB limit, Zamzar will help you do this.
   • Zamzar requires you to have an email address so that they can send you the download links and any attachments you need. If you do not want to provide an email address, try Encryptomatic.

   Open Zamzar. Go to https://www.zamzar.com/convert/msg-to-pdf in your computer browser.

   Click Choose Files… (Select file ...). It's selected under "Step 1" in the middle of the page. This will open a File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window.

   Select the MSG file. You will go to the folder where the MSG file is saved, then click on the file to select it.

   Click Open (Open). This is the option in the lower-right corner of the window. As such, the MSG file will be uploaded to Zamzar.

   Click the "Convert files to" selection box in the "Step 2" box (Part 2). This will show you a list of choices.

   Click pdf. This is the option below the "Documents" heading in the drop-down menu.

   Enter your email address. Please enter your work email address in the input field in the "Step 3" section (Step 3).

   Click Convert (Convert). It is the gray button in the "Step 4" section (Step 4). Zamzar will start converting the MSG file to PDF.

    Open the page of the converted MSG file. Once the file has been converted, Zamzar will send you a confirmation email. Here is where you find the path to the download page of the MSG file:
    • Open your email inbox.
    • Open the email "Converted file from Zamzar" sent by Zamzar.
      • Check the Spam folder (and the Updates folder if applicable) in case you don't see the email after 5 minutes.
    • Click on the long link near the bottom of the email.

    Download the converted PDF file. Click the button Download Now (Download Now) in green to the right of the PDF file. The name of the file will be the subject of the email (such as "hello") followed by ".pdf".

    Download attached data. If your email has attached data, you can download it by clicking Download Now next to the ZIP folder named "Attachments". Thus, the ZIP folder containing the attached data will be downloaded to your computer.
    • You will need to unzip the contents of the ZIP folder before you can read or view email attachments.

Method 2 of 2: Use Encryptomatic

1. 

   Know when to use Encryptomatic. If you only want to view email without downloading, Encryptomatic will allow you to do so for emails up to 8MB (including attached data). If the email to be processed has attached data, you can download the data from the view page.
   • The main disadvantage of Encryptomatic is the limited capacity portion. If you need to download a lot of attached files from the MSG file, you'd better use Zamzar.

   Open Encryptomatic. Access https://www.encryptomatic.com/viewer/ in your computer's web browser.

   Click Choose file (Select file). It's a gray button near the top left corner of the page. This will open a File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window.

   Select the MSG file. You need to go to the directory where the MSG file is saved, and then click on the file to select it.

   Click Open (Open). This is the option in the lower-right corner of the window. Your MSG file will be uploaded to the Encryptomatic.
   • If you see the message "File is too large" displayed to the right of the button Choose file, you cannot open MSG file in Encryptomatic. Instead, use Zamzar.

   Click View (See). It's the button to the right of the button Choose file. This will take you to the watch page.

7. 

   Check email. Drag the scroll bar down to the bottom of the page to do this. You will see the content of the email with any images or formats in this window.

   Download attached data. If your email has attachment data, you will see the name of the attachment data to the right of the "Attachments:" heading in the middle of the page. Clicking on the name of the attached data will download the data to your computer so you can open it as usual. advertisement

Advice

• If your computer has Outlook program, you can open any MSG file in Outlook by double clicking.

Warning

• Some of the original images or formats of the MSG file will be lost if you download the data from Zamzar.
