This wikiHow teaches you how to contact Straight Talk in the US to ask for an Android phone unlock code to use another carrier's sim. Since March 2017, Straight Talk has started to be strict with the problem of unlocking their phones.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Ask for the unlock code

1. 

   Call Straight Talk. Contact customer service at 1-877-430-2355 from 8:00 am to 11:45 pm, 24/7.
   • If you purchased your phone without Straight Talk, it is likely that it is already unlocked and no code is needed.

   Tell the operator that you need an unlock code for your phone. The operator will verify if your phone and account are eligible for unlocking.

   • Only GSM phones using SIM can unlock. Other phones, such as CDMA, often cannot be used with other carriers.

   Write down the code. The unlock code is usually between 10 and 15 characters, you will need to use this code to unlock your phone. advertisement

Part 2 of 2: Unlocking the phone

1. 

   Prepare a SIM card. Contact the carrier of the new SIM card you want to switch to.

   Power off the phone. Power off your phone as usual.

3. 

   Take out the Straight Talk SIM. Depending on your Android model, the SIM card will be in the slot on the side or under the back cover (sometimes under the battery) of the phone.

4. 

   Replace the SIM card. Insert the new carrier's SIM card in the tray.

5. 

   Power on the phone. Instead of the normal home screen, you'll see a message that your phone needs to be unlocked first to use the SIM card inserted.

6. 

   Enter the unlock code. Use the keypad to enter the code you received from the Straight Talk operator.
   Press UNLOCK (Unlock). A confirmation message that the accepted code will appear will appear. From now on, you can use the new carrier on your Android phone. advertisement

• Unlike phones of other carriers (which can often get unlock codes online), Straight Talk phones are designed to be difficult to crack. There are very few websites that claim that they can provide a Straight Talk phone unlock code.
