• Steps

This article shows how to add contacts to your email account by opening VCF file. A VCF file, also known as a "vCard" file, stores contact information that can be read and imported on email services like Gmail, iCloud and Yahoo, as well as Outlook on a desktop. However, you can only use VCF files on the computer.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Use Gmail

1.

   Click Import vCard ... (Enter vCard…). This is an option in the currently displayed menu. This will show you a File Explorer (on Windows) or a Finder window (on a Mac).

   Select the VCF file. Click the VCF file you want to open with iCloud.

   Click Open (Open). This is the option in the lower-right corner of the window. With this action, the contact information in the file will be added to the iCloud contacts. advertisement

Method 3 of 4: Use Yahoo

1. 

   Open Yahoo. Go to https://mail.yahoo.com/ in your computer's browser. You should see inbox Yahoo if signed in.
   • If you aren't logged in, you'll need to enter your email address and password when prompted.

   Click the "Contacts" icon. This is the notebook icon displayed in the upper-right corner of the window. This will show you the contacts in a new tab.
   • If you are using an older version of Yahoo, you will click on the notebook icon with the human silhouette in the upper left corner of the window.

   Click Import Contacts (Import contacts). This is selected in the middle column of the directory page.

   Click Import (Enter) to the right of the "File Upload" header. Another window will appear on the screen.

   Click Choose file (Select File) is above the displayed window. The desktop now has a File Explorer (Windows) or a Finder window (Mac) included.

   Select the VCF file. Click on the VCF file you want to open in Yahoo.

7. 

   Click Open (Open). This is the option in the lower-right corner of the window. Your VCF file will be uploaded to the displayed window.

   Click Import (Import) below the displayed window. Thus, your contacts will be imported into Yahoo. advertisement

Method 4 of 4: Use Outlook on a desktop

1. 

   Open Outlook. Click or double-click the Outlook 2016 program with a white "O" on a blue background.
   • Note, Outlook web version does not support VCF files.
   • To import a vCard file on the Mac, you'll click the file, click File (File), select Open With (Open with) and select Microsoft Outlook. You can click Save & Close (Save and close) when asked.

   Click File. This is the option in the upper left corner of the window. Another menu will appear here.

   Click Open & Export (Open and Export). This option is displayed in the menu on the left.

   CN click Import / Export (Import Export). This is the selection in the middle column. A new window will appear after the click.

   Click Import a VCARD file (Import VCARD file). You will see this option in the currently displayed window.

   Click next (Continue) below the window that is currently displayed. A File Explorer window will appear on the screen after the click.

7. 

   Select the VCF file. Click on the VCF file you want to import.

8. 

   Click Open (Open). This is the option in the lower-right corner of the window. This will import the contact information in the VCF file into Outlook contacts. advertisement
