Tight jeans are difficult to wear and uncomfortable. Luckily, you can stretch your jeans in a few different ways! If your pants are still fitting, but not very comfortable, do a few squats to relax them. Another way is to heat the jeans with a hairdryer, then stretch tight parts of the pants before putting them on. For jeans to stretch to 2.5 cm of waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, calves or length, you need to soak them in warm water and pull the fabric to stretch.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Do a squat for gentle stretches

  1. Put on the jeans. With this method, you need to be able to wear jeans that stretch your back, hips, buttocks and / or thighs, even if it's tight. Remember to button before you start stretching your pants.

  2. Do a squat for at least 1 minute. Stand up straight, feet shoulder width apart. Bend your knees to lower your hips and buttocks as if you were sitting in a chair. Make sure your knees are not in front of your toes. Then, press your heels to get up and back to starting position. Repeat this movement for at least 1 minute.
    • You can do a squat for up to 5 minutes, although it will hurt a little. The longer you squat, the more stretchy the fabric will be.

Variant: You can also do lags to relax the thighs and bottom of your jeans. However, it's best to just do this in addition to the squat as it won't stretch as much.

  3. Check that the pants are more comfortable. Stand, sit and walk around wearing jeans to see if it feels comfortable. Now you should see the pants a bit wider. However, the pants may remain tight if they are too small.
    • If you don't feel comfortable with your pants, you may need to warm up to stretch more.

Method 2 of 3: Heat jeans for moderate stretching

  1. Lay the pants on the floor or bed. Select an area with a power outlet nearby. Place the front of the pants face up. Spread the pants out so you can heat up more easily.
    • Beds are usually cleaner than the floor, so choose a bed to cover if you have an electrical outlet nearby.
  2. Heat the pants with a hairdryer on medium heat. Hold the hair dryer about 15 cm above the surface of the jeans. Move the dryer continuously while drying the pants so that the heat is evenly distributed to each area. After heating up the front of the pants, turn it over and dry the back.
    • You don't have to dry both sides of your pants, but if you do, you can stretch more.
  3. Stretch jeans with both hands and arms. Grasp the sides of the extension arm and pull vigorously in opposite directions to stretch the fabric. Move your hands up and down all over the jeans and pull out each stretch. Another way is to put your hands inside the jeans, then use your arm strength to stretch the ends of the fabric parts in your waist, hips, thighs or calves apart to stretch the fabric.
    • For example, if you want to stretch your thighs, hold one side of the leg with each hand and pull them apart. This will help widen the legs.
    • If you want to widen your waistline, unbutton your pants and place your elbows in your waist for easy pull. Pull arms to the sides to stretch the fabric.
    • If the pants cool down before you finish stretching, use a hairdryer to heat them up again.
  4. Put the pants on. Be sure to button your pants and zip it well before continuing to stretch. Your jeans fit a bit better now, but may still be tight.
    • If the buttons are too difficult to install, you can lie down on the bed and try the buttons in the lying position.
    • Do a squat or sag for 1-5 minutes to stretch your pants a little more.

Method 3 of 3: Wet pants for maximum stretch

  1. Spread the pants on the floor. You should put your pants on the floor so you don't accidentally get your bed wet. Spread out the pants to make it easier to wet the fabric.
    • The dyes in denim fabrics can get smudged when wet, so it's a good idea to spread your trash bag or some old towels on the floor before trying this method.
    • If you're going to widen your waistline, unbutton your pants so you don't accidentally snatch it off.

Variant: Another option is to put the pants on when wet so that the pants hug the body shape. However, wet denim pants are uncomfortable, and should be worn before stretching.

  2. Spray warm water on the jeans. Use a water spray to wet a small part of the pants. Spray to damp the fabric but do not need to get soaked. Spray down from the back of the pants and moisten only one at a time.
    • If it seems difficult to stretch, you may need to spray the water again. You may need to spray more water during stretching if needed.
    • If you have fabric softener, add about 1 teaspoon (5 ml) to the water spray before wetting your jeans. Fabric softener will soften the denim fabric, making it easier to stretch.
  3. Stand on one side of the pants to keep the pants steady. Place your feet close to the area where you want to stretch. This way the pants will be held firmly on the floor while you stretch the parts to be enlarged.
    • For example, when you stretch your pants, stand up close to the waist. If you want to stretch your thighs, stand next to the leg of your pants.
    • Wear bare feet or socks when doing this. If you wear shoes, you can get dirt and germs on your pants.
  4. Use both hands to pull the wet fabric and loosen the jeans. Leaning down, grabbing the pants by both hands and pulling as hard as possible away from the body. Continue to pull across the surface of the jeans in each part that you want to stretch, then move to the other side of the pants. If it feels easier, you can use both handles on the sides of the fabric and pull as hard as you can to the sides.
    • If your pants are too tight, pull horizontally, starting from the waistline. Continue stretching to your hips, crotch, and thighs.
    • If the pants are too short, it's best to start with the pant leg. Begin to pull down from the middle of your thighs.
    • Do not pull the leech or pocket, as these are weak spots and can tear.
  5. Dry the jeans before wearing. Hang the pants on the clothesline, spread on a table or over the back of a chair and wait for the pants to dry for at least 2-3 hours. However, it's best to let it dry overnight.
    • How long it takes for jeans to dry depends on the moisture content of the pants.
    • If you plan to spread your jeans on the table or chair, you should place the plastic garbage bag first so that the color in the fabric does not stain the furniture.

Advice

  • To prevent the fabric from shrinking, do not put the pants in the dryer but just hang them to dry. Also, do not wash your pants, but put them in the freezer for a few hours to clean them.
  • If you can't pull the pants over your thighs, the pants won't stretch to a comfortable fit. Jeans stretch works best when you only need the pants to be about 2.5 cm wide.

Warning

  • Be careful not to place wet jeans on light-colored carpets or towels. The indigo color in denim can easily stain the surface of a carpet or fabric.
  • While it is advised to wear jeans and sit in a warm bath, this might not be a good idea. This is very uncomfortable and does not stretch any more than the water spray method of wetting jeans.
