Currently, you can't change your settings so that only friends can message you on Facebook. However, you are allowed to block certain users from sending messages to you. This article will guide you to block your Facebook friends from sending messages using your desktop browser or the Messenger app. Blocking messages will prevent users from sending messages, voice and video calls, but they can still post on your timeline, tag and comment on your posts.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Block messages on Messenger

1.

   . This will immediately block all messages from the selected user.
   • The user won't know you've blocked them, but they'll get an error message when they try to text you.
   • Or, you can touch Block on Facebook (Block on Facebook) to block all interactions with that user.
   • If you don't want to block someone's messages but you don't want to see their info anymore, you can touch Ignore Messages (Skip messages). When confirm ignoring their message, this switches the conversation from the main mailbox to the Message Requests section. You will not receive any notification when the person texts you.

Method 2 of 3: Block messages on computer

   Click Settings (Settings) in the drop-down menu to open the General Account Settings page.

   Click Blocking (Block) on the left side of the page. This option appears next to the red stop icon on the left side of the page.

   Click the input field in the "Block Messages" section. You can block users, messages, applications, invitations and much more on this page.

   Enter the username for which you want to block messages. Matches are displayed as you type.

   Select the friend you want to block sending messages from. Find the person to block in the results and click on their name. This will add that user to the "Block messages" list and block them from sending future messages. advertisement

Method 3 of 3: Block users with Facebook app on phone

1. 

   Open the Facebook app on your iPhone or Android phone with a white "f" symbol on a blue background. You can find the application on the home screen or in the application list.

   Touch the button ☰ to open the controls menu.
   • On iPhone and iPadYou will find this option in the lower right corner of the screen.
   • For AndroidThis icon is in the upper-right corner, just below the Messenger icon.

   Scroll down the screen and select Settings & Privacy (Settings and Privacy) to expand your selection of settings on the menu.

   Touch on options Settings (Settings) appears next to the head icon under Settings & Privacy to open this page.

   Scroll down the screen and select Blocking (Block out). This option shows up next to the gray human head icon on the Settings page. Once tapped, you will see a list of all the blocked people.

   Touch the button Add to blocked list (Add to block list) displayed next to "+"Blue at the top of the list of blocked users.

   Enter the name of the person you want to block. Matches are displayed as you type.

   Touch Block (Block) next to the name you want to block. You can see the button Block on the right side of the screen.
   • You will have to confirm the action in the window that appears.
   • Besides blocking messages, it also blocks users who have chosen to view your posts, tag you, send invitations, and make friends.

   Touch Block in the confirmation window. This is the confirmation step and add the selected user to the Blocked People list. They cannot text you, view your profile or make friends. advertisement
