Chromecast lets you stream from your Chrome window to a TV or monitor. However, like many other electronics, problems can occur in the process. Often the easiest way to solve the problem you are having with your Chromecast is to reset the defaults to the same as it was initially. You will then need to reset it, but it shouldn't take too long.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Use Chromecast Desktop App

1. 

   Open the Chromecast app on your computer. The app can be located on your Desktop, Start menu, or your Applications folder.

   Choose your Chromecast. If you have multiple Chromecasts on your network, you will need to choose the Chromecast you want to change.

   Press.Factory Reset. Press Reset to confirm. This is the step to reset your Chromecast to its default settings. You'll need to set up the Chromecast Dongle again to use it. advertisement

Method 2 of 3: Using the Chromecast Mobile App

1. 

   Download the Chromecast app from the Google Play Store to your Android device. You cannot restore the default settings from an iOS app. If you can only use the iOS app, click here to manually reset your Chromecast.

   Click the Menu button (≡). This button appears in the upper left corner of the screen.

   Click "Settings". This will open the Settings menu for your Chromecast.

   Click "Factory reset Chromecast". Once confirmed, your Chromecast will be restored to factory settings. You will need to run the Setup process again. advertisement

Method 3 of 3: Use the Reset Chromecast button

1. 

   Locate Chromecast on your TV. Make sure you have plugged in so you can factory reset. Chromecast cannot be restored if unplugged.

2. 

   Press and hold the reset button. This button is located right next to the Micro USB (connection port) at the end of the Chromecast dongle.

   Hold the reset button for 25 seconds. The light on the Chromecast will start to blink and your TV screen will show the Chromecast logo and the words "Resetting to factory defaults".

   Set up Chromecast. After the reset, you'll need to run the installation again in order to be able to use Chromecast. advertisement
