When it's time to sell your Macbook, you should wipe the data on the hard drive and sell it in factory settings. If the Macbook is restored like that, it also becomes more attractive in the eyes of the buyer. Make sure you have connected to the Internet before restoring your Mac.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Delete data on hard drive

1. 

   Restart the Macbook. Click the apple icon in the top left corner of the screen and choose “Restart”.

   Press and hold Command + R. Do this when a gray screen appears during boot.
3. Select Wi-Fi network. This option may not be available.

4. 

   Select “Disk Utility.”

   Erase the hard drive. Select your hard drive from the list, then click "Erase".

   Select "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". This option will appear in a new window.

   Type in a new name. This will be the new name of the hard drive.

   Click "Erase.’ This is the step of wiping the data on the hard drive. advertisement

Part 2 of 2: Reinstalling the operating system

1. 

   Exit Disk Utility. After the hard drive is erased, click "Disk Utility" and then select "Quit Disk Utility".

2. 

   Click the Reinstall OS X option. Click "Continue".

3. 

   Follow the instructions on the screen. Please complete the reinstallation of the operating system. advertisement
