This wikiHow teaches you how to merge data from two different worksheets in a Microsoft Excel workbook.

Steps

  1. Double-click the workbook to open it in Excel. This workbook must contain at least 2 sheets that you want to merge.

  2. Click + to create a new spreadsheet. This button is at the bottom of the workbook, to the right of the last sheet's name.
  3. Click cell A1. Just click once to select.

  4. Click the card Data (Data) at the top of the screen, between “Formula” and “Review.
  5. Click on the action Consolidate (Merge) in the "Data Tools" group of the top toolbar. The Consolidate panel will appear.

  6. Choose Sum (Plus) from the “Function” drop-down menu. This is the first drop-down menu in the Consolidate panel.
  7. Click the up arrow to the right of the “Reference” box. The Consolidate table will be retracted and the title changed to Consolidate - Reference.
    • On some versions of Excel, the arrow is gray or black. On other versions, you will see a small rectangle with a tiny red arrow inside.
  8. Select data in the first spreadsheet. To do this, click the sheet name at the bottom of the screen, then click and drag your mouse over the data you want to merge. The data will now be surrounded by dotted or dashed lines.
  9. Click the arrow in the Consolidate - Reference window. The larger Consolidate panel will reappear.
  10. Click Add (Add) to the right of the “All references” box. We can continue to merge selected data with data from another sheet.
  11. Click the up arrow in the “Reference” box. As before, the Consolidate table will be reduced and the title changed to Consolidate - Reference.
  12. Select data in second worksheet. Click the sheet name at the bottom of the workbook, then select the data you want to merge.
  13. Click the arrow in the Consolidate - Reference window.
  14. Click the button Add. You will see two selected data tables in the “All references” box.
    • If there are other worksheets to merge, add the data in the same way you did with the previous two sheets.
  15. Check the box next to "Top row" and "Left column" in the bottom left corner of the Consolidate table.
  16. Click OK. The selected data will be merged and shown in the new spreadsheet. advertisement
