If the Minecraft game is updated, you will also need to update your server so that players of the new version of the game can connect. Fortunately, updating Minecraft servers is relatively simple. You can even save all the configuration files so that you don't have to mess with any settings in the new version.

Steps

1. 

   Open your Minecraft Server folder (Minecraft server). This is the directory that contains all the files related to your server.

   Make a backup of the necessary configuration files. Copy the files below to a different location so you can quickly restore them after updating the server:

   Copy the "world" folder. Copy this folder to the same location as the configuration files you just backed up so you can restore and enter your saved world after updating.

   Copy the file containing the boot command (script). If you used the command file to start the Minecraft game, copy this file to another location. You can later restore that file to make it easier to start your server.

   Delete all remaining files in the directory. After you have backed up important files to another location, delete all remaining files in the Minecraft Server folder. You need to do this step so that the old files don't cause problems with your new installation.

   Download the new host file from the site Minecraft.net. Go to the site to download the host file for your operating system.
   • Download the EXE file if you are using Windows operating system.
   • Download the JAR file if you are using OS X or Linux.

   Copy the new host file to your Minecraft Server directory.

   Rename the server file. If you are using a script or .bat file to start your server, you will need to rename (rename) the new host file so that the file containing the old command will still work. Please delete the version number at the end of the new server file to become compatible with the old command files.

   Run the server file. Double-click the EXE or JAR file to run the new server for the first time. All files required for the server's operation will be created.

    Close the server. As soon as the files are created, close (Close) the server.

    Restore your backup files. Move the files, command files and the "world" folder into the Minecraft Server folder.

    Open the file.. Find the line and rewrite it. Save the file and exit the command editor.

• If you are running a CraftBukkit server, after the update is released it may take a few days before you see the CraftBukkit version.
