This article shows you how to install emojis (emojis) on your Android device depending on the Android version being used.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Check the Android version you are using
Open the Android device's Settings by tapping the Settings icon in the list of apps.
- Supported emojis depend on the Android version you're using, as emoji are system-level fonts. Each new Android version will support some newer emoji.
Scroll down to the bottom of the Settings menu. On some devices, you'll first need to tap the "System" group.
Touch About device (Device Introduction) or "About phone" or "About tablet" (About tablet).
- Touch Software version (Software version), if needed. Some Android devices will ask you to access this menu to view the Android version.
Find the Android version. The number in the "Android version" line shows the Android version you are using.- Android 4.4 - 7.1+ - Devices running version 4.4 or later can use the Google keyboard to add emoji. The device's built-in keyboard also has an emoji option.
- Android 4.3 - You can enable iWnn keyboard to type black and white emoji. You can also get third-party keyboards to add color emojis.
- Android 4.1 - 4.2 - Some emoji are supported for viewing, but there is no built-in keyboard option. You can use third-party keyboards to type emoji.
- Android 2.3 and earlier - Your device does not support emoji display or typing.
Part 2 of 4: Using Google Keyboard (Adroid 4.4+)
Open Play Store. The Google Keyboard includes full support for all the emoji the system can display. Color emojis are available on all Android devices from Android 4.4 (KitKat) and above.
Type Google Play go to the search bar at the top of the screen.
Type google keyboard (google keyboard).
Tap the Google keyboard in the list of search results.
Touch Install (Setting). If the Google keyboard is not compatible with your device, you can try other keyboard options.
Touch Accept (Accept).
Google keyboard settings. You will see the installation progress in the Notification panel.
Open your device's Settings menu. You can find Settings in the apps list with gear icons or sliders.
Scroll down to section Personal (Personal). On some devices, you need to tap the Personal group.
Touch Language & input (Language and input source).
Touch Default (Default) in section Keyboards & Input Methods (Keyboard and Input Method).
Choose Google Keyboard (Google keyboard).
Open the application using the keyboard. Now that the Google keyboard is on, you can use it to insert emojis into your messages.
Press and hold the key ↵ (Enter). You will see a menu above your finger and a menu option ☺
Slide your finger on the smileys ☺ and release to open the emoji list.
- If you don't see a smiley, your device probably doesn't support emoji. You need to try a different keyboard.
Tap a group above the keyboard to bring up other emoji groups.
Swipe left and right to see more emojis. Each group usually has several icon pages to choose from.
Tap an emoji to insert it into the text.
Press and hold the emoji to change skin color (Android 7.0+). If you are using Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later, you can press and hold the human-shaped icon to select a different skin color. This action doesn't work on Android devices using an older version. advertisement
Part 3 of 4: Using iWnn IME (Android 4.3)
Open the device's Settings. If you're on Android 4.3, you can turn on the black and white emoji keyboard.
Scroll down to section Personal (Personal).
Choose Language & input (Language and input source).
Tick cell iWnn IME to enable the black and white emoji keyboard for your device.
Open the app that allows you to enter text.
Press and hold the key Space on the keyboard.
Touch the button Category (Category) to change emoji type.
Touch the button << and >> to view more pages.

Part 4 of 4: Using a Samsung Galaxy device (S4 or newer)
Open an application that uses the keyboard. If you are using Samsung Galaxy S4, Note 3 or later, the device's keyboard has emoji built-in.
Press and hold the button Gear or Microphone to the left of the key Space of the keyboard. On the S4 and S5 series, you use the Gear button. On the S6 series, you use the Microphone button.
- S7 series users can tap the ☺ (smiley) button on the keyboard to open the emoji selection.
Touch the button ☺ in the currently displayed menu. This will turn the keyboard into emoji input option.
Tap the categories below the keyboard to see different types of emoji.
Swipe left and right to change pages. Most categories have multiple emoji pages.
Tap an emoji to insert it into your text.
Touch ABC to return to the keyboard. This disables the emoji keyboard to return to its regular keyboard. advertisement
Advice
- Because emojis are supported by the system, the recipient may not be able to see the emoji you send. For example, if you send an icon in the latest Unicode version to a device that doesn't support this version, the other person will only see a blank box.
- Many messaging apps have their own emoji that only show up in apps. Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, Hangouts, Snapchat and more have emoji built-in, allowing you to see emojis that your device doesn't normally support.
- Android only supports emoji viewing from version 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and color emoji only show from version 4.4 (KitKat) and above. Emojis cannot be viewed in older versions of Android.
- The appearance and number of emojis supported depend entirely on the Android version you are using. Emoji are system-level fonts and need support in order to view and use them.
