This wikiHow article teaches you how to import Yahoo mail and contacts into Gmail inbox. You can also import contacts from Yahoo only if you want. To switch from Yahoo to Gmail, you need to use a computer with an Internet connection (not a smartphone or tablet).
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Import entire mail and contact list
. This setting is in the upper-right side of your Gmail inbox. A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Click Settings. This option is in the center of the drop-down menu. You will open the Settings page.
Click the tab Accounts and Import. You'll find this tab near the top of the Settings page.
Click Import mail and contacts. This is the link located in the "Import mail and contacts" section. Clicking this link will prompt a pop-up window.- You may need to click Import from another address if you have previously imported information from another email account.
Type in your Yahoo email address when prompted. You need to type in the text field in the center of the window that appears.

- You can close the Settings page without affecting the import process.
Method 2 of 2: Import only contact list
Open Gmail. Go to https://www.gmail.com/ in the web browser on your computer. You'll open your Gmail inbox if you're signed in to your Gmail account.
- If you aren't logged into Gmail, you must enter your email address and password to continue.
Click Gmail ▼. This button is in the upper left corner of the mailbox. After clicking, a drop-down menu will appear.
Click Contacts. You will see this option in the drop-down menu. Your Google Contacts contact list page will open.
Make sure that you are using the correct version of Google Contacts. If you see the link Try Contacts preview On the left side of the page, you need to click on it and follow what appears on the screen to continue.
Click More. This button is on the left side of the page. You will expand the menu More, make options Import and Export appear.
- If you don't see this option on the left side of the page, click it first ☰ in the top left corner of the page.
Click Import. This option is below the section More. After clicking, a window will be displayed.
Click Yahoo Mail. This button is at the top of the pop-up window.
Click I AGREE, LET and GO!when asked. You will see this option in the lower right corner of the pop-up window. When clicked, you will be redirected to the Yahoo login page.
Sign in to your Yahoo email account. Type in your Yahoo email address, click next, type the password of the email account, then click Sign in.
Click Agree when asked. This is the blue button at the bottom of the window. This step confirms that you want to import your Yahoo contacts to your Google Contacts page.
Wait for your Yahoo contacts to finish importing. You will receive a notification when your contact list is successfully imported to the Google Contacts page.
- You can close the Google Contacts page without stopping the import.
Advice
- Another way to completely switch from Yahoo mail to Gmail is to forward Yahoo Mail to Gmail inbox. That way, you can view Yahoo emails in Gmail without having to import your contact list or opened messages.
Warning
- Yahoo will delete your account if you don't sign in for 12 months.
