A piston is a cubic object that is capable of repelling other masses when the red stone circuit is inserted. Pistons are able to push most objects depending on how they are positioned, and the sticky piston is also capable of pulling. Making the piston is very simple, see the instructions below.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Fabrication of ordinary piston

1. 

   Search for the necessary materials:
   • Find four pebbles. Quarry for ordinary stones and they will turn into pebbles, or directly exploit the pebbles.
   • Collect a red stone. Red rock is found underground while you mine.
   • Collect an iron block. Iron blocks are also found underground, after which iron needs to be melted down.
   • Create three wooden planks. Cut the tree, and place a log on the crafting table, then you will have four boards. Three wooden planks are used for the Piston Crafting Formula.

   Put all of the above ingredients in the fabrication frame according to the piston formula:
   • Place three wooden blocks in the top three horizontal cells of the crafting frame.
   • Place the iron block in the center position of the crafting frame.
   • Place the red stone just below the iron block.
   • Place the pebbles in the other box.

   Generates pistons. Once the crafting process is completed, press the shift key while clicking or dragging the piston into the inventory. advertisement

Method 2 of 4: Fabrication of sticky pistons

Sticky piston can push and pull cubes. The piston is usually only capable of pushing. This property makes sticky pistons more versatile. However, the two pistons can usually be pushed backwards or forwards if needed.

   Look for the mucus ball. This can be obtained by destroying the living slime. You will find the slime underground in some fixed block object, and in the swampy area when the moon is not present. When the slime object dies, it will release a green slimeball.

3. 

   Place piston and slimeball in the fabrication frame as shown below:
   • Place the slimeball in the center of the crafting frame.
   • Place the piston just below the slimeball.

4. 

   Creates sticky pistons. Once the crafting process is completed, press the shift key while clicking or dragging the piston into the inventory. advertisement

Method 3 of 4: Activate the piston

1. 

   Put any red stone (red rock dust) circuitry into the piston, and this will help prolong the service life of the circuit. The piston will push the block beside it. If it is a sticky piston, it is also capable of pulling the mass.
   • The red rock circuit line must lead directly to the piston. There won't be enough room for all the red rock to be placed next to the piston, and thus the piston won't work. So you need to bend the circuit lines to activate the piston.

Method 4 of 4: Construction with piston

1. 

   Build a few objects with the help of a piston:
   • Construction of piston pull bridges
   • Manufacture of automatic piston doors.

Advice

• The piston cannot push a chain above 12 cubes. That is too long chain.
• You cannot push a few cubes with a piston (or pull). For example, the anvil would be too heavy to move. Pistons also can't push dark jellies, base stones, terminal gates, and gates of hell. Pistons cannot repel lava and water but can block their flow.
• Some things will turn into pushable objects. For example, cacti, pumpkins, Ender's cactus eggs, sugar cane, and pumpkin lanterns turn into pellets when pushed. They will return to their original form when you walk on them. The watermelon will turn into thin slices so your character can eat them (you can't eat the watermelon while it's left). The spider web will turn into a rope, used to make fishing rods and bows.
