Are you having trouble loading websites with lots of interactive elements (eg e-commerce sites)? Most of these elements are powered by JavaScript, a powerful scripting language for websites. By default, all Android browsers have JavaScript enabled. If the feature is accidentally disabled on your device or you turned it off and forgot how to reopen it, see step 1 below to learn how to enable JavaScript.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: On the default browser

  1. Open a browser.
    • Depending on the version of Android or the manufacturer of the phone you are using, the browser might be called "Browser" or "Internet". Click on the application icon to open it.
    • If you can't find the browser icon on your Home screen, check it in the App Drawer app drawer.

  2. Click the Menu button.
    • The Menu button is usually located on the phone, or you can tap the Menu icon in the upper right corner of the browser.
  3. Click Settings.
    • This option is usually near the bottom of the Menu button's menu. The browser's settings window will open.

  4. Click the Advanced option.
    • This will open a list of advanced browser options.
  5. Check the box for "Enable JavaScript".
    • Once this box is checked, JavaScript is enabled in your browser, you can exit the Settings menu. Please reload the pages you are currently viewing to apply the new settings.

Method 2 of 3: On Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome.
    • If you are using Chrome instead of an existing Android browser, you will need to enable JavaScript through Chrome's settings menu. Chrome apps are usually located on the Home screen or in the App Drawer.
    • Some Android devices usually have Chrome pre-installed as the default browser.
  2. Click the Menu button.
    • This button is located in the upper right corner of the browser screen and has a shape of three vertically arranged dots.
    • If your phone has a Menu key, you can tap it.
  3. Click on Settings.
    • This option is near the bottom of the menu. You may need to scroll down to find it.
  4. Click on "Content settings".
    • In the Settings menu, the "Content settings" option is located in the Advanced section.
  5. Check the box "Enable JavaScript".
    • After checking this box, JavaScript will be enabled in your browser, you can exit the Settings menu. Please reload the pages you are currently viewing to apply the new settings.

Method 3 of 3: On Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open a browser.
    • If you are using Firefox instead of the default Android browser, you will need to enable JavaScript through the Configuration page because this setting is not visible in regular menus. Firefox apps are usually located on the Home screen or in the App Drawer.
  2. Open the Configuration page.
    • Because Firefox hides JavaScript settings, you need to visit the hidden Configuration page to change the settings. Tap the address bar and type about: config to open the Configuration page.
    • Be careful because changes made to this page can mess up your browser, so do it with caution.
  3. Find JavaScript.
    • The Configuration page has many categories, so you can quickly find JavaScript keywords. At the top of the Configuration page is the search bar. After you enter javascript, the results will appear on the main window.
  4. Find options "javascript.enabled".
    • This is usually the second option in the list of results that appears when you search for the keyword "javascript".
  5. Enable JavaScript.
    • Click the option to make the Toggle button appear. Click the Toggle button to change the text from "false" to "true". So JavaScript is enabled, but you may need to reload the currently viewed pages to apply the changes.

Advice

  • If a website on Android is not working properly then the JavaScript option is most likely disabled.

Warning

  • Before accessing a site that requires JavaScript, you need to make sure this option is enabled for the website to function properly.
