In this article, we'll show you how to activate wireless internet on a Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop.

Method 1 of 3: Using the Wi-Fi key or button

1. Turn on your HP laptop.
2. Find the external wireless button. Most HP laptops have a button on the side or front of the computer that you can use to activate the wireless function. If it's not on the side or front, you might find the key above the keyboard, or sometimes it's one of the function keys at the top of the keyboard.
   • The button is indicated by an icon that looks like a wireless tower that is broadcasting signals.
3. Push or slide the button to the on position. The light on the button will change from orange to blue when Wi-Fi is activated.

Method 2 of 3: Turn on WiFi under Windows 8

1. Press the Windows key. Now you go to the home screen.
2. Type “wireless”. When you start typing, a search field will open in the top right corner of the screen.
3. Click Change WiFi settings. This option appears in the search results.
4. Click Turn wireless devices on or off.
5. Slide the button next to “Wifi” to the On-position. From now on, your HP laptop can connect to wireless networks.

Method 3 of 3: Turn on WiFi under Windows 7 / Vista

1. Click on Start. This can be found at the bottom left of your screen.
2. Click on Control Panel.
3. Click on Network and Internet.
4. Click Network and Sharing Center.
5. Click Change adapter settings. This can be found in the left column of the control panel.
6. Right-click on Wireless network connection.
7. Click Enable. Your HP laptop is now ready to connect to a wireless network.

Tips

• If you are unable to connect after turning on the WiFi function, turn off your computer and unplug all plugs from your router and modem. Wait a minute, then reconnect all cables to your router and modem, plug in the power, and try connecting to the wireless network again.
