To find out if a message has been delivered in the Apple messaging app, open Messages → Select a conversation → Check to see if "Delivered" appears below your last message.

Method 1 of 2: iOS

  1. Tap the messaging app.
  2. Tap a conversation.
  3. Tap the text field. This is directly above your keyboard.
  4. Type a message.
  5. Tap the icon with the blue arrow. This will send your message.
  6. See if it says "Delivered" below your last message. This will appear directly below the message.
    • If no "Delivered" appears below your message, check the top of your screen to see if it says "Send ..." or "Send 1 of X".
    • If you don't see anything under your last message, your message has not been delivered yet.
    • If "Send Delivery Receipts" is enabled by the recipient, it will be changed to "Read" once the message is actually seen.
    • If you see "Sent as text message," it means your message was sent using your carrier's SMS service instead of Apple's iMessage servers.

  1. Open the messaging app.
  2. Click on a conversation.
  3. Type a message.
  4. Press ↵ Enter.

  • There are a number of reasons why a message may not be delivered. Your device may not be properly connected to your network or Wi-Fi, your receiver's device may be turned off or out of Wi-Fi range, or your receiver may have blocked you.
