Do you have a brand new iPhone? Then the first thing you want to do is set up your voicemail. It allows people to leave messages and you can change the boring default greeting to something more personal. The whole process only takes a few minutes, regardless of your mobile network. Read on at Step 1 to learn how.

To step

1. Open the Phone app. You can find this in the home screen. By opening the Phone app you start the dialer for your iPhone.
   • Visual Voicemail is a free service that is available almost everywhere. This gives you an overview of all your voicemail messages that you have not retrieved, and you can listen to them in any order.
2. Tap the Voicemail button. This will open the Voicemail app. You will see a large “Set Up Now” button. Tap to start configuring Visual Voicemail.
3. Enter a password. This is the password you will use to access your voicemail. You have to enter this twice to continue.
4. Choose your greeting. You can either use the default greeting that reads your number to the caller, or you can record your own greeting.
   • To record your own greeting, tap Record, record a greeting, then tap Stop. You can play it back for listening and, if you are happy with it, you can save the greeting with the Save button.
5. Access your voicemail. If your Voicemail has been configured, you can access your messages by tapping the Voicemail button in the Phone app. You can use it to browse through all your voicemail and choose which one you want to listen to.
   • Tap the message to play. Tap Delete to delete the message from your inbox, then tap Call Back to dial the number of the person who left a voicemail.
   • You can check how many new messages you have by looking at the small red number on your Voicemail icon.
