Siri is one of the wonderful achievements on newer Apple devices. With an older iPhone or iPod, you can therefore feel a little let down. But don't despair! There are ways for any iDevice user to install Siri, from using third-party software to jailbreaking the phone to install a Siri port. Follow these tips and you'll be giving voice commands to your iPhone in no time!

Method 1 of 2: The no-jailbreak Siri experience

1. Install a third-party app. Even if your device doesn't officially support Siri, you can install apps that mimic the functionality. One of the most popular apps that do this is Dragon Go !, from developer Nuance.
   • Nuance offers the official Siri speech recognition software, enabling Dragon Go! shares much of the same functionality.
   • Dragon Go! can be linked with many other services, including Google, Yelp, Spotify, Pandora and Netflix.
   • Dragon Diction allows you to create text messages and long notes with your voice, and integrates seamlessly with Dragon Go!
2. Use the built-in Voice Control. While this feature isn't quite as hip as Siri, the built-in Voice Control on the iPhone 4 is quite advanced. As with Siri, press and hold the Home button to activate Voice Control, then speak your command.
   • Say "Call" or Dial, followed by the name of the contact you want.
   • Say "Facetime" and then a name and number (iPhone, mobile, etc.) to Facetime someone.
   • Say "Play" + the song, album, playlist, or artist to play a particular song. You can also ask "What" or "Who" to find out what song or artist is playing. Say "Genius" to play a new, similar song.
3. Use Google Search. The Google Search app has a speech recognition system that allows you to search for Google search terms and accounts with your voice. Although this feature is not supported by many of the services on the iPhone, it can be useful if you are browsing the Internet.

Method 2 of 2: Get Siri through a jailbreak

1. Jailbreak your iPhone. To download a version of Siri that works on your older device, you will need to jailbreak your iPhone first. This allows you to reach Cydia - this allows you to install apps that cannot be found in the official App Store.
   • Your device must have at least iOS 5.1.1 installed.
   • This method is known to cause problems on older devices. If your device loses functionality, you may have to restore it.
2. Wait for the repository to be added. When that is done, search for "Siriport (original) iOS". Install it and reboot your iPhone.
3. Wait for the repository to be added. When it does, search for the "Siriport (original) iOS 6" package. Install it and reboot your iPhone.
4. Open the Settings on your iPhone. Scroll down until you find SiriPort.ru. Select it and tap "Install Certificate". This will open a new Safari window where the "Install ... Profile" screen will appear.
   • Tap install, then tap Install again in the top right corner. On the installed profile page you will see Verified in green letters. Tap Done and close the Safari window.
5. Press and hold and the Home button to open Siri. There may be some delay with this method. That's because the program has to communicate with foreign servers.
